#jumpmod
Lovely article by @terrortola.bsky.social on JumpMo (by my PhD student Romain Nith) that creates a sense of vertical acceleration (e.g., jumping) at @engadget (https://www.engadget.com/the-jumpmod-haptic-backpack-makes-virtual-leaps-more-realistic-160003718.html) apropos our demo at #SIGGRAPH2023
Researchers at the University of Chicago have developed a prototype haptic feedback system that makes the sensation of jumping and falling in VR more realistic.

The untethered device provides a more convincing illusion of vertical movement than today's best VR visual tricks alone..

#SIGGRAPH2023 amazing emergent technologies program (I've tried some impressive demos today, I'll post more later). In meantime, come try out JumpMod demo (https://youtube.com/watch?v=57izT0UZ77M&feature=share9) at @siggraph with @romainnith @tengshanyuan & @tao_yujie

making progress on this. now i can

- start/stop patterns at exactly the next n-cycle boundary (rewrite d1 to jumpMod 1 n)
- transition patterns over n cycles (d1 -> xfadeIn/clutchIn/… 1 n)
- batch patterns (buffer separate code blocks and run them at once)

all by holding some modifier buttons :)
