This week we review and discuss Hope (호프), a science fiction movie directed by Na Hong-Jin and starring Hwang Jung-min, Jung Ho-yeon and Michael Fassbender, about an alien attack on a small fishing village in South Korea. We discuss the movie's numerous storytelling mistakes, from lack of subtext to excessive repetition and some of the most boring action we've seen in a long time, why the first act caught our attention with a suspenseful mystery but then let us down in the later parts of the movie that failed to pay off what was set up earlier, the significant role potatoes play in the movie and how this movie taught us the term goguma, whether this movie might secretly be a prank, and much more.
