Google claims it will disable AI tools for K-12 student accounts in 2027 unless schools opt in. The catch? Schools that completely restrict Google’s AI tools will also lose access to Google Search.

the main solution to this would be to mandate the HPV vaccination as mandatory in K-12 environments, rather than railing against the dangers of oral

This deranged ballot initiative is winning in Washington State. I'm so pissed.

If you've ever wondered why something wasn't in your K-12 textbooks that you learned in college, it's probably because of the Texas Board of Ed.
We got the Board of Education too, which is a victory it’s difficult to overstate. The TX SBOE has outsized power and blue control means some damage to our kids can finally start to be repaired

I love the fact that 1/3 of my timeline is people cheering the Texas school board results bc this website is absolutely packed with the sort of people who know of the top of their heads the wonky fact that Texas drives the K-12 book market.

You can read a lot into this, but I think it can be as simple as “some of the Democratic storytelling on higher-level sports was shortsighted and caused a backlash that impacted K-12 sports.”

Olympic governing bodies can determine standards for themselves.

But K-12 sports should welcome all.
Washington’s ballot measure mandating genital inspections for school students is extremely likely to pass.

This is so interesting. This story covers how Texan Republicans' handling of education, mostly K-12 but there's a higher-ed mention in there, drove at least some voters to the polls.
One factor that helped fuel Democrats' dominance in Texas last night: Parental anger over the GOP's multiyear to war to force private school vouchers, ban library books and impose conservative Christian values on public schoolchildren.

“Parents are just hopping mad,” one Republican told us.
Anger over GOP education agenda helped fuel Democratic sweeps in Texas, advocates say
Before they flipped Texas blue, Gina Hinojosa and James Talarico made names for themselves fighting book bans, private school vouchers and restrictions on classroom instruction.

In the midst of all the good news from last night, I’m deeply saddened that Initiative 638 appears poised to pass in Washington state. This measure, aimed at punishing trans girls, will require all little girls to undergo genital exams or other invasive procedures in order to play K–12 sports.

california, texas and florida — in this order — are the largest purchasers of K-12 textbooks in the united states, which is why future schoolchildren of florida are going to learn that evolution is not a contested theory and that jesus did not possibly walk with dinosaurs
To that end the TX board of education ends up influencing national education policy because their purchasing power is so vast it behooves ed companies to cater to them. It doesn’t matter if others agree or not, they now have to buy those books. Losing TX is losing that kind of influence

Our kid will enter K-12 soon and this shit is turning me into the joker. Our school district gives out laptops to fucking KINDERGARTENERS and makes them sit in front of a fucking screen. WHY. How did anyone think offloading education to tech corps was a good idea. Get ALL of this shit out of schools

Sports bans are one of the big fronts against transphobia. A huge test will be Tuesday in WA and CO.

Know before you vote:

1 These bans are not based on science.

2 They are profoundly anti-girl. Republicans in WA want “sex verification” of all girls K-12.

That means genital exams.
Too many Democrats concede as "fact" the stereotype-driven propaganda that far-right groups like the Alliance Defending Freedom have promoted: that trans athletes at all ages and forever have a competitive advantage and that safety, even, is at issue.

A long body of research disproves these claims
Republicans are putting transphobia on the November ballot in seven questions in five states. The measures reflect broad anti-feminist aims, from "sex verification" for girls to limits on reproductive rights, an analysis by @billiejsweeney.bsky.social for Assigned Media and Important Context finds.
