I attempted to, ahem, backup some Kindle books I just bought and calibre couldn't convert them from KFX-ZIP to KFX!
Twenty minutes later, I had it solved: the physical kindle is *so slow* at downloads. Once the books were fully downloaded, I was able to, ahem, back them up.

I just got my new eInk Kindle delivered. It's a 10th generation. I've set it up, and sent a book to it. It turned out to be a KFX book, and I had to update both Calibre, the KFX Input plugin, and the, ahem, backuping plugin (it's a beta version, 10.0.9).

Today in the "back up your ebooks before they're locked beyond your reach" saga: did you know that A LOT of the evil site books are in KFX file format, and that Calibre does not play well with that? For those books, you need to download THE WHOLE ASS FOLDER, not just the single file.

it uses github.com/The0x539/Aeg... and some other libraries (since i didn't write it particularly _intending_ reuse) but it oughta be pretty easy to make standalone too

Since Amazon plans to prevent us from using old Kindles to back up our libraries, I installed Windows 10 in VirtualBox specifically to test this method. A bit tedious, but I can confirm it works.

Nach ewigem Herumsuchen hab ich endlich dieses Video gefunden und es hat schlussendlich funktioniert mit Calibre, dem von ihm verlinkten KFX-Plugin und der Alpha-Version des DeDRM-Pugins.
Note that Amazon already may have converted books to their newer .kfx extension, and you then *need to download from web if you want a file with the older extension.
I'll take a look at this tonight, and see if that's still possible.
Calibre 6.x (on a pi) tells me it cannot download kfx files!

If you already had books from before sometime this year (Feb, maybe?), they'll still be in KFX, and you can still transfer them from your physical Kindle and convert with Calibre.
