For some reason at my school, buttercups got confused with kingcups and we all used these terms interchangeably, while checking for a golden glow under one another's chins. But you were a bit of a brain if you called them ✨marsh marigolds✨ #flowers #wildflowers

‘I love to see the summer beaming forth
And white wool sack clouds sailing to the north
I love to see the wild flowers come again
And mare blobs stain with gold the meadow drain’ ~ John Clare. #BookWormSat

I love kingcups. I always associate them with the smell of mint, because if I can see the kingcups I'm treading on the mint!

Spring watch in the garden, post 9: a coronet of kingcups round the pond for the 80th birthday of our king! Perfect timing.

Proper spring walk here in Dorset (Bere Regis / Turners Puddle / Throop) this evening… bluebell season is well under way and I even saw a few swallows flitting past.

Marsh marigolds or kingcups at Avebury yesterday

Marsh-marigold was very common before the general draining of land and had lots of different local names, not just Kingcups. Water-blobs, Pollyblobs and Gollins, to name a few; it was also called Mayflower and brought into the home on May evening for luck. #StoryPlants #WildflowerHour

Kingcups! One of my favourite marsh plants

That is good to know! I’ll stick with the smaller rush, in which case. I was tempted by the forget-me-nots, but I’d already ordered some kingcups for the marshy bit behind the shed.

Oh, excellent! It’s looking really good already.

I’m planning on brooklime, swordleaf rush, and kingcups? Maybe waterlily, but I worry we don’t get the sun.

Anyway, I’m gently scheming about aquatic plants.

Kingcups and Brooklime, and miniature waterlilies…

(Can’t justify a flowering rush. Don’t have the space.)

Like, I know, correctly, it is Marsh Marigold, but they’re really Kingcups.
