The life over the big spring is beautiful! All the moss and conifers were a bright lovely green over the aquamarine water of the huge spring underneath. Highly worth the trip!

Kitch-iti-kipi or the "big cold spring" is roughly 300 by 175 feet in area and was named by the native Ojibwe people. Its crystal-clear water is fed by hydraulic pressure forcing groundwater up through dolomite and shale 40 feet below. Palms Book State Park near Manistique Michigan, 14 Jul 2026.

I actually made two things this weekend: my son and I made a mess trying to make some minor household repairs & I made plans for a bucket-list trip to Kitch-iti-kipi in Michigan this summer. Look it up, it cool!

There's Mackinac Island, where no motor vehicles are allowed, but that's a whole day trip in and of itself because of the ferry.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is about 90 minutes from Tahquamenon Falls. There's Kitch-iti-kipi and Seney National Wildlife Refuge.
