Even if creating Android only app for now I'd definitely recommend starting off being #KMP/#CMP ready
➡️ create KMP module
➡️ develop UI using Compose Multiplatform
➡️ use KMP libraries (e.g. Ktor for accessing remote apis)

Room went KMP.
Room 2.7.0 is out today with Kotlin Multiplatform support! It now supports Android, iOS, JVM (Desktop), native Mac, and native Linux.
Plus Kotlin code gen becomes the default for KSP and KSP2 is fully supported.

On a related note, SavedState KMP (in alpha) is a Bundle on Android, but since it’s KMP-compatible, it also works in 'jvmTest' (without Bundle). A nice side effect of converting libraries to KMP is making it possible to write tests without Robolectric or an Instrumentation environment.

Navigation 2.9.0-alpha09 makes the navigation-testing library compatible with KMP, ensuring that you can now use helpers like the type safe SavedStateHandle(serializableClass) API in jvmTest, allowing you to avoid any Robolectric requirement when testing.
