I'm in a mood right now where I don't want to watch new dramas. I'm revisiting Tree With Deep Roots as a comfort watch (which is a bit weird because it's most definitely a ktrauma). Oh I'm technically still watching Mr. Sunshine but hubby is turning it into a year-long watch at this rate 😭😭 #kdrama

Some people really need to remember this and stop getting mad when characters in a show act according to the genre conventions 🙄

A film genre creates a sort of contract with the audience. Specific genres have specific expectations and those expectations are ones that directors and filmmakers agree to uphold. This mutual agreement provides comfort to the audience as they come to expect familiar tropes and plotlines. If a movie that’s advertised as a cute, lighthearted romantic comedy ends in tragedy, the audience is going to feel betrayed. Every past experience they have had with similar films will teach them to expect certain things. Breaking this contract can be detrimental to a film’s commercial success and can be upsetting to the audience.
