Evidence for successive breaching events by basking sharks Cetorhinus maximus (Lamniformes: Cetorhinidae) - Environmental Biology of Fishes
Basking sharks were recorded breaching frequently off the coast of Co Clare, Ireland. The frequency and time between breaching events were analysed to determine any patterns in this behaviour. A…

🦈 Sharks Under Threat 🦈
LAMNIFORMES - These are the mackerel sharks, which include some of the most well-known shark species. Slow growth, late maturity & low reproductive rates make them vulnerable to global fishing pressures & exploitation.

Clearly that's a fake because a Shark would wear a vest with "Lamniformes" (Maybe LM4S) instead of K9. Sharks are not canines. LOL.

Todays Paleo Party guest is Cladoselache! This is commonly called the first shark, though it’s slightly adjacent to the family of modern lamniformes that includes modern sharks.
Age: 371-359 million years ago

New #megalodon paper! 🦈

This work further applies the new "slender" hypothesis to some of the shark's basic biology, including suggesting a lemon shark-like body.

Congrats to the authors! Will probs dedicate my 1st website blog to my thoughts on this paper: palaeo-electronica.org/content/2025... 🦈

honestly I'd rather have a couple of good body fossils of like the smaller lamniformes that are A) very common in the Paleogene and B) a huge pain to tell apart.

Here's the fossil, color-enhanced for soft tissue impressions.

This appears to be an early evolutionary experiment in a bodyplan that we see today in rays & mantas: wings for gliding.

It was tentatively classified in Order Lamniformes, the mackerel sharks, which also includes modern Great Whites.

Something I find interesting is that although Cretoxyrhina, Cretodus, Archaeolamna, and some populations of Cretalamna were found to have occupied apex predator niches of very high trophic levels, NONE of them had serrations on their teeth.
