#laurels
We were assured by various reporters that the El-Sayed/Stevens rift had torn the Michigan Democratic Party asunder.

Then, Election Day happened.

My latest CJR column (which also includes a 30-lb. sturgeon).

Elections aren’t the end, they’re the beginning. Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, and the corrupt politics they represent were rebuked tonight and their leadership needs challenged so an aggressive agenda reflecting the clear will of the people can be enacted.

No resting on laurels.

Stacey Abrams deserves her laurels for that. Amazing work.

Dems take control of the House. Great. Now let’s make sure Dems DO something with that. No laurels in there to rest on

*Arrives wearing laurels, on a chariot for viewing*

Don't you fucking dare rest on your laurels after tonight.

Work begins.

Dems cannot rest on their laurels or fail to bring accountability. Four years after 1976 we got Reagan.

update my Scavengers website with ALL THE MANY LAURELS (3) it has received. 🙏 kristinsson.dk/scavengers/

This is why you can’t just celebrate and rest on your laurels. Before the landslide was even cemented the narrative that Democrats shouldn’t actually do what the people are demanding was already being sewn.

We’re in a class war. Get serious. After all this time. Get. Serious.

I really wish more of our elders were willing to fundamentally reexamine their relationships with establishment dems rather than rest on their laurels and think everything will be fine now that things have turned blue. I can already see it in conversations I’ve had and it’s super frustrating as hell

Resting on my laurels Francis ur more handsome than him ong

Lots of such laurels in academia
Shout out to the National Academy of Sciences for spending the past two years finding excuses to capitulate to Trump and Vought’s bullshit, instead of taking a stand for what you knew damn well was right.

Great job, American people!
Now go get on the nerves of your representatives so they do their JOB instead of resting on their laurels after such a win.
November 4, 2026 at 11:54 AM
The Democrats don’t have any laurels to rest on.

They NEED to take action.
November 5, 2026 at 2:50 AM
Next step, tell the Dems not to rest on their dried out, shriveled laurels. There's work to do.

Laurels for everyone!

She seemed to be improving. They were talking about discharging her to The Laurels. Yes, it was unexpected. #TheArchers

There should be a term like "glass cliff" (when a woman is appointed to clean up mess, absorb blame and possibly failure, and stabilize an org before being pushed out as head so the next reckless male "visionary" can collect laurels)

that captures the extra layers when the woman is Black

I’ve already accomplished two things at work in just 3 hours

(Rests on my laurels)

gotta say, as an Albertan, I sincerely hope that the people in Texas don't rest on their laurels for a second. winning doesn't mean you've won, and people voting down their incompetent conservative government doesn't mean they like you now.
November 5, 2026 at 4:54 PM
no laurels for Cringe California. i'll put my hand up, i thought prop 40 would be a no-brainer 💀
November 4, 2026 at 5:27 PM
I really appreciate how you never rest on your laurels and are constantly innovating new bits.

Once this new Congress is in session, it's going to be important for us to call their offices and tell them a more prosecutorial version of this.

Yes, making more phone calls sucks, but if we rest on our laurels, so will they, and then all of this will be for nothing.
listen up democrats: we did not vote for you for y'all to find common ground and reach across the aisle. we voted for you to crush our enemies, to see them driven before us, to hear the lamentations of their women
