Not all churches are cold right now, folks!

Signed, all of us currently dealing with roof leadwork melting
There is ONE thing I am looking forward to this heatwave: Pictures of paschal candles that have melted in churches. Here's an example from a few years ago. It's my favourite phenomenon. Because, well... Look at it.

One hour quick concept. I’m still debating if the window should be stained glass or just rusticated leadwork.

Internally, a striking burst of detail can be found in the nave windows. The decorative fleur-de-lys leadwork and sugar-barley stick orange quarries in the cusped fringes make for a joyous little visual delight.

Every year I bring my students here, Strawberry Hill House by Horace Walpole, John Chute & Richard Bentley. Also every year I ask the volunteers here if it's been leaking as I did the roof leadwork detailing when working on its renovation & I was terrible at detailing. Thankfully it's not been.

Got to listening to the newest Chainsword album/EP whatever you want to call it. Really like this one, the leadwork in particular is gnarly and off the walls. Not a huge fan of the vocal mix, feels buried. But proper death metal.

This is the other side of THE WINDOW! Look how different the colours can be based on light source - emerald looks almost blue tone.

Orange & emerald need more coats, adding apple green & crimson as the other two colours. Then I’ll paint it with clear glass paint so it’s a flat layer for leadwork.

Shack/utility roof all stripped of tiles, new battens, and felt laid, so ready to be slated tomorrow morning. New leadwork and cement fillets, maybe by the end of the week.

The writing you see on these pipes was stamped at the leadwork to indicate ownership, the manufacturer, and date the pipe was laid.

This pipe indicates it was laid during the reign of Vespasian.

Great news for @dorsetmuseum.bsky.social!

Dorset Museum & Art Gallery has been awarded £940,500 to replace the roof over the Victorian Hall, library, and offices, alongside repairs to leadwork and windows.

A plea for #TGJones to respect and cherish the remnants of #WHSmith's early shopfitting - its wonderful tile panels, decorative leadwork, enamel hanging signs and olde-worlde shopfronts. New post, looking back at #WHSmith, here:
