Exploring the green lanes west of Lichfield

The medieval conduit head hidden in the Pipe Hall woodland west of Lichfield. The initial structure was built in 1166 & the conduit was in use until 1969 supplying water over 2km via lead pipes to Lichfield Cathedral where a water spout & basin still lies in the cathedral close (see last photo).

Lichfield Cathedral doors
Hello all 👋 here's a photograph from 2024 of the wonderful main entrance of #Lichfield Cathedral. A couple sit, engrossed in the screen of a mobile phone.

Thick fog in Lichfield. Was standing by the cathedral and you can’t even see the nave roof line, never mind the spires!

@frjonathanbish.bsky.social has created a pumpkin in the shape of Lichfield Cathedral- and we wait to see if any one comes round to trick or treat.

This is Lichfield. Of course you can spot some folk magic burned into the beams whilst waiting for your coffee ☕️🔥

Thanks to 7th Lichfield Scouts for donating four hedgehog houses! 🦔

With hibernation season upon us, our volunteers are installing them along the canal route.

A fab addition to our network of bird and bat boxes, helping to support local wildlife and boost biodiversity.

St. Mary’s House in Lichfield had the gates open today so you could get a good view of the remains of the 13th c. defensive wall & SE corner polygonal tower. The whole cathedral close was originally surrounded by walled defences & a dry moat up to the 17th c. The house is medieval in origin too.

The statue of Charles II at Lichfield Cathedral as restorer of the cathedral after significant damage during the Civil War. It was originally prominent on the west front but moved to this location on the south side during 19th-century restoration works.

Lichfield Cathedral has come up with a pretty decent compromise to cope with very long lists of names for requiems in big congregations, which is to apply the rule that only names of those who died in the preceding year are read out, but all the names are placed on the altar.

Occasionally on a day off I like a stroll round Lichfield. I tried a new place for lunch
