I have many, many favourite Kudelka cartoons but this, from 2011, is possibly one of the best Aus pol cartoons ever drawn.

A small lighthouse occupies the tip of a rocky peninsula making for a simple but picturesque skyline. Incoming tide has begun to fill tidal pools along the rocks; the lighthouse is reflecting in the still water of the largest pool. The blue sky has a soft brushing of clouds which is echoed in the soft line of waves due to a long exposure shot.

Our sabbatical to UBC in 2011 had us living on campus (which I just adore). Back then, the (now) Arcadia Park High Rise had a study space on the top floor with these views!

My favourite tree of 2025.

It's scraggly; it's lop-sided; it's dug in on harsh ground 10m past where the rest gave up.

I've resented being complimented for resilience, but if it means I've got a little Jack Pine in me... Perhaps that's a kinship to be embraced.
