Not gonna have this opinion tagged into that announcement post, but Sufficient is all I'm gonna get from Lightningsource through DTRPG. Are the costs down? Sure. Is the quality down relative to my personal Lulu copy? Yupppp. Wish I could offer 80# coated pages on DTRPG, but the Premium is too much.

the only silver lining is that Ingram LightningSource does its printing stateside but I'm looking for more info on like where the paper comes from

3. The main gate here was: we needed a print shop that can handle a color insert on glossy paper, while the rest of the book is on nice cream paper stock. That single quirk eliminates most of the "big tech print shops" such as LightningSource and Kindle Direct Publishing.

If you are serious about self-pub as a career, I recommend Ingram, either IngramSpark, or better yet, LightningSource if you’ll be running a real publishing company.

Drivethru prints in the US for US customers so it is not directly affected by tarrifs, but if LightningSource imports any supplies, then prices will still go up...

so it's not that it's impossible to do, it's just a bunch of extra stuff that people don't have already set up, and may or may not be able to go through the process of setting it up in the future

(LightningSource, which DTRPG uses, handled their european distribution out of the UK, last I knew)

I invested in my own isbns and publishing through Ingram so that you can purchase my books anywhere you want. I want to protect and control my art. Not give it away to the AI theft engine. It looks like this is opt in only so far, but GFDI, if this starts impacting publishing costs and royalties…

It's not half bad at all! I've had the BPPB on my desk nonstop since it landed and it hasn't complained yet. I've had worse from books I bought from a big publisher. I've had better, too, to be fair, but these days LightningSource has been doing a solid job in my experience.

The draft book released to a few family members and friends called Soft and Hard Collected Poems 2001-2004 is also time bound and evidentiary though often symbolic evocative and not clear of actors, private on Lulu and Lightningsource
