🇫🇮 Olavinlinna castle rising from the still water at Savonlinna in the 1840s: round towers reflected in the lake, a sailing boat gliding past, and the little wooden town on the shore. Lithograph by Pehr Adolf Kruskopf.

I watched a video on the lithography machines, the sheer mass involved in making something so tiny.

Well I guess you kind of 'chisel' a chip into being using lithography? sort of? maybe? 🤷‍♂️

Knowing how human brains work though, we'll probably start manufacturing plutonium-238 again to build helium generators instead of solving the superconductor problem and rationing helium for lithography.

The odd colors were taken from locomotive builder lithography of the era, which shows how lavishly painted these engines would've looked when leaving the factory, as a show of quality workmanship - How long they stayed this nice is debatable

🇬🇧 London Bridge in 1616, lined with houses from end to end, the Thames churning between its piers, ships waiting below, and a forest of church spires across the river. 19th-century lithograph after Visscher's famous panorama.

A testament to state planning capacity. There were like four modern lithography machines in 2018 when the US told ASML to stop selling to China, and by 2028 they're expecting to be producing their own chips.

The EU and UK economies dwarf Russia’s, and Europe’s technology, from ASML’s unique chipmaking lithography machines to Britain’s AI and pharma, is what America really needs. So why does Trump keep choosing Putin?

Because dutchland makes some of the super high end lithography stuff right?

Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines.

Required to make RAM, only made by one company, years long backlog of machines on order.

Not sure what their excuse is, but apparently having only one company make them aids security or some bullshit.

Physical mesh painting process, achieved by pushing acrylic paint through perforated aluminum mesh, resulting in a pixelated image, which resembles a cross between a tapestry and a lithography print. Following eviction from my studio & closure of my paint & aluminum mesh supplier, I stopped painting

Yeah and unlike for MRIs you're actually using the helium gas itself for lithography and not just too cool superconductors. We're not really THAT far from economical superconductors with a critical temp that can be reached by LN2,which solves the helium shortage problem for MR.

The mesh painting process grew out of playful attempts to manually replicate the offset lithography printing process used to print billboard posters (before they went digital). I used discarded fragments of billboards to create collages, sometimes using paint to fill the gaps between the fragments.

China’s new immersion lithography tools, which would compete with the Dutch company ASML, are not yet production-ready, but continued allied and U.S. servicing help China close the remaining gap. Ethan Chiu explains how existing export control rules could slow Beijing's progress.
Washington’s Overlooked Leverage Over China’s Chip Ambitions
China’s new immersion lithography tools are not yet production-ready, but continued allied and U.S. servicing accelerates their progress. Existing U.S. export control rules already offer a response.
