#loadtime
The most elegant solution would be if you had to press a button to continue so you're not forced through an unnecessary loadtime but you get time to prepare as well.

"Compiling Shaders" is a myth made up by big loadtime to make you complacent with waiting several minutes before you can play your game. Nothing is actually happening. The elves that make the game run are just slacking off

It's been a year since the upgrade from 16, and my verdict still stands:
everything that had a loadtime, still has that exact loadtime
there are, however, way way fewer heroic writing sessions to the page file, which are phenomenologically indistinguishable from loadtimes
remove dat bottleneck
Should you upgrade to 32 gigs of ram to be able to load all your cities skylines mods?
no
Should you upgrade to 32 gigs of ram to be able to run a web browser, which for some reason is equipped with enough frameworks to run a minor space launch with only a minimum of tinkering?

noen som vil ha holdt et foredrag i nerdeland mellom UX og kode?

om avansert typografi (som kan minske loadtime fra 400 til 36)

eller generative farger i #OKLCH colourspace

jeg er kvinnen på saken!

I have spent the last few days optimizing my raycast queries. I am using a ‘BVH’, which is pretty much a fancy subdivided octree holding references to subsets of triangles of a bigger mesh. Generated at loadtime:

they didn't compress files, they deduped them. duplicate files is a (rather silly) solution to an issue that only exists on mechanical drives, so if you're on an SSD this was a 85% filesize reduction as zero real loadtime cost

+ It's clear that the devs have huge respect for the whole Rune Factory series, it's fun to see refs to other RF games!
+ Characters are very charming and even ones I wasn't remotely interested in have won me over
- Switch 1 version has loadtime issues and lower res shadows/textures, otherwise fine!

OH MY GOD IM USING THE SAME SHIT WHAT IS YOUR LOADTIME I NEED TO KNOW.

MINES LIKE 20+ MINUTES ;~;
January 18, 2026 at 1:20 AM
dunno if loadtime is a variable, though i've taken to using
await this.page.waitForLoadState('domcontentloaded');
for damn near everything.
...
also would argue for adding 'garr'

even python and typescript and lua and so on handle it better because their type checking is done strictly at loadtime, meanwhile godot's types are a cursed hybrid that try their best to do compiletime checks but ultimately can still throw a runtime error if you return the wrong type

<3 if you are extra extra nerd, host the variable version (github) – this will reduce font loadtime _drastically_

why Fira? it has all the math symbols you'll ever need, it is readable, legible, gentle.

it was made for mozilla (though they don't use it much for inexplicable reasons)

And not once did loadtime have rampant gay sex during the session. 😞

Just wrapped up recording an episode of the @programmier.bar🎙️

We talked about web performance, from loadtime to runtime performance, about common pitfalls and what actually matters in real-world projects.

Had a great time with Garrelt and Fabi. Thanks for having me! 😊

Upgraded my PC yesterday! Now I can run all games that I have (the most recent 'graphically intense' game I own is NieR:Automata but anyway) at max graphical settings at 60fps! Although a little on a cheaper side, I think it's a great purchase!
(My previous score was ~6800/ and 28 sec of loadtime)

TIL that when you change map in UE all your global parameter collections (material and Niagara) get wiped. Includes when joining or hosting a multiplayer session. I guess it makes sense but it wasn't intuitive and I had some odd bugs as a result
