W H Hudson wrote in A Shepherds Life (1910) about motor cars in Salisbury roads, ‘until the loathed hooting and dusting engines are thrust away into roads of their own there is little pleasure in them [roads] for the man on foot’. 115 years later and Salisbury never got the bypass he was suggesting

Looking at parish council minutes for Alderbury, Wilts where there were complaints in 1906 !!! about the ‘danger’ caused by ‘the rapid driving of motor cars’ 🚗 It would take another 70 years for a bypass to be built. 🚙

On #WorldTypingDay here are typists busy at work, in Stanton Ironworks typing office in the 1940s. That must have been a noisy place to work, with the click clacks of keys and the dings of those typewriter bells.
