I once gave a couple of students a group research assignment on Longshan whitewares and they decided the best way to understand them was to make one themselves. Amazing. The only downside was they wouldn’t let me buy it from them after the semester ended 😁

Researching China's Longshan culture really got a lot easier when I accepted the argument of some archaeologists that its better to just use Longshan as a name for the period, and that rather than one culture there are actually several closely related cultures throughout this time in Northern China.
