The red wattlebird was first up today, loud and persistent outside my bedroom window then later, after a stint in the giant salvia, it chased off a couple of rainbow lorikeets who had the temerity to be perched in the elm branches. #Firstbirdofmyday #Whatsyours

We've been driving along the Murrumbidgee and Murray. Lots of birdlife: some big (with a predilection for roadkill), some noisy (lorikeets in Mildura) and some annoyed that we wanted to walk down 'their' river boardwalk (moorhens in Renmark). It's been great!

They're so lovely to have around, and less of a disruptive noise than the noisy miners that usually are dominating the morning chorus.
The occasional rosellas and musk lorikeets popping in are even more welcome visitors though

You have a great mix there all at once & no fighting! Our lorikeets chase the king parrots & even harass the magpies to try & steal their meat mix. Very agro little critters.

Regarding the Lorikeets, what aperture did you take that photo in? Stupidly, I've only understood the difference in shooting at diff apertures last week.

We have the lorikeets too. Their names are lori and keet (my hubby’s names 😉). They demand their seed each day! Lots of Roos down here, very privileged 😊

So glad I have the opportunity to enjoy this awesomely diverse range of birds, and need to remember that hurt because lorikeets, rosellas, red tailed black cockatoos, and frogmouths are absolute showstoppers doesn't mean the more common and slightly less flashy birbs don't deserve more love too

There's a Callistemon tree outside our back door, and this year it's exploded into so many bright flowers. Which means every hour of the day it has a bunch of rainbow lorikeets hopping around it and squawking (except at night where the blossom bats move in instead)

Hadn't been doing my daily walks for a week but I picked a good day for it, all the bottle brush trees are flowering which means there's swarms of rainbow lorikeets out there yelling excitedly.
Rainbow lorikeets are the kind of thing that makes life worth living when they're all together like this.
