Meet Rhyssonotus nebulosus, an australian stag beetle (Lucanidae). "nebulosus" for its cloud markings on the elytrae.
The horns are used by males to fight for dominance over a piece of wood.

A surprise find on an Oak trunk was this Rhinoceros Beetle, Sinodendron cylindricum. It's a member of the Lucanidae (Stag Beetles), and a new species for me.

Bei mir in der Ecke ist es mir noch nie gelungen einen Hirschkäfer (Lucanus cervus) in natura zu sehen. In Slowenien ist mir beim Abendspaziergang direkt einer entgegengeflogen.

Deep within the middle of Nowhere, there lives a race of insects called the Lilopons. Most in the Lucanidae family serve as guards and warriors. Sir Dorcus here is very critical of outsiders, which Hugo very much is.
