A large-scale analysis of U.S. water quality data published last year in Science revealed that most toxic chemicals remain poorly characterized or undetected in routine monitoring. https://scim.ag/4alqHdl #WorldWaterDay
Limitations of chemical monitoring hinder aquatic risk evaluations on the macroscale
Macroscale evaluations of chemical monitoring data require the integration of chemical, spatial, and temporal dimensions. Here, we linked 64 million US surface water monitoring records (1900 chemicals...

An analysis of U.S. water quality data reveals that most toxic chemicals remain poorly characterized or undetected in routine monitoring.

The findings in Science suggest that the true scale of chemical risk to biodiversity and ecosystems may be significantly underestimated. https://scim.ag/4alqHdl

The low water level of the Danube is making headlines.

In the future, as glaciers disappear "summer runoff contribution from currently glacierized basins will be strongly reduced, intensifying issues with water shortage in summer also in poorly glacierized catchments."
Present and future contribution of glacier storage change to runoff from macroscale drainage basins in Europe
Glaciers make a significant runoff contribution in macroscale drainage basins The impact of glacial melt water is recognizable with very small glacierization The retreat of alpine glaciers plays an...

New year, new preprint (+ last thesis paper!)

Macroscale gradients of intracranial EEG power spectra follow familiar axes: sensory-motor and unimodal-transmodal 🕵️‍♀️
Gradients show overall stronger association to distance, but multimodal information was best in transmodal areas 🧠

Unless things go very wrong, the calculator will always arrive at the same conclusion. The dominoes are more variable because of the vagaries of macroscale physics, but there's a strong likelihood of a single conclusion (the last domino falls) and not much coherence among the alternatives.

Noradrenaline drives learning across scales of time and neurobiological organisation
The noradrenergic system plays a diverse role in learning, from optimising learning behaviour to modulating plasticity. Work bridging across micro- and macroscale levels is revealing how noradrenaline...

A reprocessing space changes the room that a system's entropy can rearrange itself. Increasing microstates means the vacuum gets cooler & decreasing microstates becomes hotter. It also affects metabolism & the frequency of quantum phenomena at the macroscale.

99% of these mfers don't even have a coherent theory of mind

Even fewer are following modern neuroscience & cog sci and it shows. Recent theories are leading us further away from computer-like computation.

How do minds work at the macroscale? What is "intelligence"? No one knows.

There's also a drastic difference in how "optimized" macroscopic biological systems are vs. microscopic, unicellular ones

Like individual cells and organelle are obscenely efficient and optimized whereas macroscale systems are often less so

In CDPR's perhaps unwarranted defence, I think this is a factor of whatever the hell happened with vanilla C2077's development process, because I would say PHANTOM LIBERTY's meso- and macroscale writing is significantly tighter.

Totally in the realm of first world problems, microscale, but it's very real

And, macroscale, I think it needs to get solved to get to any common public good going forward
