ENCELTO is a small implant for macular telangiectasia (MacTel), a disease where abnormal blood vessels and retinal degeneration cause central vision loss

The implant uses modified retinal pigment epithelial cells to release ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), to protect and preserve eye function

An optical coherence tomography (OCT) scan shows the damage beneath the retinal surface in MacTel, where cystic spaces form and disrupt how the eye processes light. The disease progresses slowly, often without symptoms, but eventually impacts reading, facial recognition, and daily tasks.
