Some of my best beers were from a tiny c-store. I wasn't able to go to a Makgeoli brewery but check that out if you can.

Seoul is vast and neighborhood/district based. I think there are 25 of them. Generally each has a market area with great street food, RR, bars, Makgeoli joint, and occasional brewery, etc. You can also drink on the street. Hard to justify a cross town trek sometimes.

You guys I took a class on making makgeoli from a woman who is VERY serious about historical Korean cuisine and is also a home brewer with 20 years of experience and a PhD in chemistry. She said I could share her resources. I’m only sad I missed her first class, inspired by #BonAppetitYourMajesty

I began this sidequest by lacto-fermenting vegetables and making Kimchi. Also, I sm looking at my own Korean heritage. As it turns out, next month we will be getting a presentation on Makgeoli. Literally talked about this with 2 newer members and didn't realize it was already on the schedule.

What is Makku? Short for Makgeoli, Makku is a traditional Korean rice beer, hazy and creamy, but refreshing. We'll have three flavors open for tasting tonight 4-6pm! Come try something new!

Now that I’ve had my Shin Ramyun 신라면 (with cheese and an egg) and a bottle of makgeoli (장수 막걸리), obviously this isn’t over. The opposition and people won’t let this stand. Protests will continue, especially on Saturdays. We may see strikes by labor unions. 1/

This makes me sooo happy…! Korean gluten free pastries - Everything is made with this fluffy rice flour and makgeoli base. There are several dairy free options too, like this red bean one (though I think that’s a milk chocolate drizzle so… don’t eat that part). But srsly… a bakery I can eat at??? 😍
