The only thing that changed is that now I think all the relationship drama was just straight up pointless. Coulda used the time they wasted on the Makorra/Masami love triangle on developing Korra's relationship with Asami so that their romantic end would be way more convincing.

Oh yeah. The Makorra crap was purely them (s1+2 are written soley by them) to "prove" that fire/water, sun/moon, yin/yang ships were terrible and bad.
So, it was them fundamentally, and willfully, not understanding the basic asian philosophy they were using in their series.
