This is a "walkers only" track at Gluepot.
I didn't find any malleefowl but I did find one of their mounds and some fresh tracks in the red dirt. I need to return in spring and try again.

These mounds, built by the male malleefowl, are huge. They can be 2 metres high and 5 metres wide. The female will select a mound and lay ~15-24 eggs. While incubating, the male keeps the temperature constant.

I have seen malleefowl mounds (they lay their eggs in massive dirt mounds) but haven't been lucky enough to spot a bird yet. One day, hopefully.

AW staff found this malleefowl mound in our region recently. The pile of leaf litter in the centre is a sign that the mound is being prepared by the birds for eggs. The vegetation breaks down to create warmth for incubation, much like a compost heap.
