8th poster for the Marchenoir Library
A Distraught Marchenoir sings a song of heartbreak in the ruins, above she is seen kissing her on again off again boyfriend Parveen Velvet, a demigod popstar. The three figures overseeing this are "The Aunties", ancient witches that live off of human misery, who ultimately plan to cause some final cataclysm that will make them so powerful that they will live forever

9th poster for the Marchenoir Library
Marchenoir and her sisters, the one on the vespa wearing a souvenir jacket is Hellebore and the one holding a mask and acting out the John Everett Millais painting of Ophelia in the water is Peony. The character in the back is "The Mother of Masks". Strange moment of looking at this and remembering where I was while I worked on it, all of these posters were made in spring/summer 2020 and this one on June 13-15 2020. Iirc I had just been to a demonstration against police violence and had seen people of all ages, races, ways of life together protesting, and I was feeling such strong feelings of solidarity and hope. And also I was deathly afraid of Covid, sp of giving it to my elderly parents who I was in a pod with. Haaa

5th poster for The Marchenoir Library, possibly my favorite
This character is called "La Muta" after the mask she wears, from venetian masks. Her dress and pose is based on a portrait of Madame de Pompadour. The character belongs to a possibly fictitious ancient empire, one that if it ever existed, destroyed itself to turn all of their recovered furniture into priceless antiques. La Muta lives in a hollow planet called "Mask Ball" where she oversees a never ending masked ball, surrounded by grotesque furniture in ormolu halls. Marchenoir is written in Japanese as like a literal translation 「黒歩」

My book "The Marchenoir Library" came out in May 2020, when the world was dealing with the novel coronavirus covid-19, so I couldn't tour with it or promote it in a locked down world. I made a bunch of posters to promote it online and I will be posting those here

6th poster for The Marchenoir Library
the bottom portion of this poster is based on Henry Fuseli's "The Nightmare" but instead of an incubus sitting on our heroine's chest it's an old timey radio, the character reaching in is "The Rubber Shroud", an ancient crime beast built by pre-war civil scientists studying crime
