Buddy and Mochi stroll to Auroville’s Matrimandir, where the golden dome shines. In the shaded gardens, they find peace—Buddy rests as Mochi meditates nearby, both feeling the serene energy around them. 🐶😺❤️🪷

India after independence went in a very different direction. Courageous experiments in nonviolent self-sufficiency do still go on (notably the Sarvodaya movement in Sri Lanka and Auroville in India) but the Gandhian dream of a scaleable model of self-sufficient village life remains elusive. (7/8)

In 1968, youth from 124 nations placed soil into a marble urn to launch Auroville, a UNESCO-backed "living laboratory" for unity near Pondicherry. Conceived by The Mother as a place belonging to humanity as a whole, its heart is the Matrimandir, a golden sphere for silent meditation.

In the 60s, the land at Auroville, India was barren.

Then volunteers from dozens of countries planted millions of trees, turning desert into forest, bringing back 100 bird species, and building the Matrimandir, a golden dome for silent meditation.

Another world is possible.

The Matrimandir is a remarkable feet, made of pure gold which where captured between glass panels and inside a "floating" chamber with one optical perfect glass ( 70cm weighs over 400kg ) the globe inside captures a single beam of sunlight.

It is a wonder to meditate inside, a complete stillness.

Travelling, talking to strangers and clicking pictures of the things that interests me is my other hobby.
One such incident would be talking to an environment conservation lawyer from the US who was also visiting Matrimandir in Pondicherry, India and getting to know her, her work and background.

A misconception prevails that Auroville has no religion although Matrimandir with The Mother & Sri Aurobindo's symbols is right at the centre of it. Founded by The Mother, it represents an aspiration for Vedic ideal of Life Divine and so it's erroneous to look upon it as utopian. #TusarNathMohapatra

Savitri Era Party has been opposing Hindutva since its inception in 2007. Savitri Era Religion (2006) has no connection with Hindu or any other religion. Govt must recognise it as a separate religion and return Auroville and Matrimandir to devotees of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo. Tusar Nath Mohapatra

It is in India and it is a place created by "The Mother" Mirra Alfassa a French woman who followed an Indian man Sri Aurobindo and enlighten sage.

The inauguration ceremony, which was attended by delegates from 124 nations, was held on Wednesday, 28 February 1968 to mark the golden Matrimandir.

[From Paris to Pondicherry, a journey of transformation!
Mirra Alfassa's path—from an artist at Académie Julian to a seeker in Tlemcen, from meeting Tagore in Kyoto to becoming The Mother beside Sri Aurobindo—was one of creativity, mysticism, and spiritual awakening. Her vision lives in Matrimandir]

Spent today visiting various places in Pondicherry. This was one of the few places in India that was under French control, rather than British, and they still retain French as an official language.

If you want something offbeat, relaxed, and spiritually modern, take your kids to Auroville. This is where children get an introduction to conscious living, creativity, and inner stillness—but in a very light, friendly way.The Matrimandir area, with its peaceful gardens and golden sphere, sparks curiosity. Workshops for pottery, meditation for kids, eco-farming, and community cafés make it a refreshing alternative to traditional sacred sites.

The Prime Minister is at the Somnath Temple. He should show the same level of concern for Matrimandir at Auroville by returning its ownership and administration to the devotees of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo, scattered all over the globe. My devotion is as important as your faith. #TusarNathMohapatra

Despite espousing Enlightenment values, Western countries have not been able to create something like Auroville. So expecting it to be a reality in India is a chimera. But as a private property, it belongs to Savitri Era Religion. Govt. should not force secularism on Matrimandir. #TusarNathMohapatra
