Several hundred feet below us is a large pond with a marshy area on its shore to our right. Rising steeply from the pond's far shore is a long wooded mountain with extensive open cliffs and exposed rockslides on the flank facing the pond. A small copse of gnarled red cedars shade the side to our right. A forest begins at the edge of the outcrop 20 or 30 feet ahead. The forest is not untouched. A nearby double power line parallels the base of the cliffs. A large open rock quarry scars a low peak to our left. A rounded wooded knob along the ridge ahead with more cliffs along its left face is the summit of our mountain.
