I Was Reborn Into A Fantasy World With RPG Leveling But The Game Mechanics Are Boring As Shitttttttttt
November 6, 2026 at 4:12 AM
I think this is common enough now that you could call it a phenomenon, where the defining limitations of a classic game are removed, and players call it an "improvement" on "clunky" mechanics and controls.

IMO the mechanics define games as much if not more than the themes or aesthetic vibe.
Enjoying Queen's Domain so far, although a portion of the playerbase calling it an improvement on king's field is concerning to me! What defines King's Field are the controls (esp. the cam controls which deeply affect the action), lack of jump, and slow classic dungeon-crawler-esque pace

I do love this one but The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics has my heart
Her queer historicals are also delightful. I would particularly like to recommend The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows because BEES.

The research that goes into these is both seamless and delightful.

it is my firm stance that game mechanics are aesthetic choices that structure not only play but the way that you interpret a wide range of information and sensations
I think this is common enough now that you could call it a phenomenon, where the defining limitations of a classic game are removed, and players call it an "improvement" on "clunky" mechanics and controls.

IMO the mechanics define games as much if not more than the themes or aesthetic vibe.

“Bicycle mechanics is something that can’t be replaced by AI; bike mechanics are a job of the future, and we will need many more for the future, as many more people will cycle.”

A new analysis shows that Europe’s bicycle industry will need to recruit around 105,000 additional mechanics by 2032.
”Meeting demand to 2032 (…) would require the European maintenance workforce to grow from around 175,000 to close to 250,000, an increase of roughly 40%.”

E-bike growth requires more mechanics. What a clean jobs boom would that be!

Oberth Maneuver Fans, alert!

A seldom-played card in the game of orbital mechanics.
In 2 days, our operators will perform two first-of-their-kind maneuvers for @escapademission.bsky.social. They'll execute a powered flyby of Earth to slingshot both spacecraft toward Mars. No other NASA mission has executed a so-called Oberth maneuver before. 🛰️🛰️🌏🫡
