#media-mergers
The president should not be involved with these mergers. Media just presents it as normal behavior.

If only there was a federal agency that could stop monopolizing media mergers.
FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez on Paramount-Warner Bros merger:

“This settlement appears to pave the way for yet another massive media consolidation deal that could raise prices for consumers, reduce content diversity, and weaken editorial independence”

All media mergers end up hurting writers, actors, directors, and everyone else who works in the industry. Executives, assistants, caterers, teamsters, everyone. Fewer companies means fewer jobs, period.

Tbh, good advice regardless of mergers and media consolidations. Support the weird, small art made by real people.
The best way to fight back against the Paramount/Warner Brothers merger is to support independent artists, journalists, writers, filmmakers, musicians and everyone else who has been walking a very hard path to putting things out into the world.

First Colbert, now Kimmel.

Last-minute settlements, secret side deals, multi-billion dollar mergers pending Donald Trump's approval.

Trump silencing free speech stifles our democracy. It sure looks like giant media companies are enabling his authoritarianism.

Media mergers 🤝 censorship
September 20, 2025 at 12:42 AM
We need real antitrust law to prevent mergers like this that increasingly conglomerate our media environment.

We must pressure our State Attorneys General to sue and block these media mergers. You can connect with your State AG and let them know how you feel here: bit.ly/3R85rQD
Our media is controlled by just a handful of billionaires and their corporations. And Trump is making things even worse.

Here's how we stop it.

Trump owns a streaming business while also deciding which media mergers to block

It's quite clear...... @warren.senate.gov is not a fan of these mega media mergers, including Paramount/Skydance and Warner Brothers Discovery

Just caught up with Sen. Warren

Bill Clinton could have stopped all of these media mergers in the 90s and he didn't. We cannot forget the accomplices in the Democratic party who brought us to this horrible media landscape too.
July 19, 2025 at 7:31 PM
dems genuinely have no media policy beyond helping Republicans rubber stamp shitty giant media mergers and paying empty lip service to protecting and funding journalism
For 20 years now, I have been saying, "the right is building a giant, explicitly ideological infotainment behemoth, sucking up viewers, sucking up local papers & stations, sucking up radio, sucking up social media, dominating the info environment. Dems aren't. It's gonna be a problem!"

apocalyptic media mergers are okay but delightful mountain lions are not. whatever, california
September 19, 2026 at 10:09 PM
If Trump was not President, these media mergers would NEVER happen.

massive media mergers —> censorship
February 18, 2026 at 11:54 PM
We absolutely need a president that is downright hostile to M&A. Acquisitions are how private equity ends up buying every good thing and shitting on it. Mergers are how we end up with three huge businesses running everything. It's why all our media is owned by billionaires.
July 21, 2024 at 2:40 AM
For everyone who spoke up and said Trump's censorship of Kimmel is wrong, your voice mattered.

This fight isn't over. Trump won't stop corruptly pressuring media companies. CEOs must not bend the knee to secure mergers and regulatory favors.

The First Amendment is not for sale.

The Corrupt Relationship Between UFC, Trump, The Ellisons and Hollywood

Trump is desecrating America with a UFC fight on the White House lawn, but behind the scenes, it's the broligarchy that is profiting off of media mergers, shady business deals, & pain.

Once the corps and oligarchs 100% took the news mass media it was really game over wasn’t it?

Reagan killed the fairness doctrine. Clinton & Repubs then scrapped rules prohibiting media consolidation. Followed by 25 yrs of mergers, hiring careerists & firing real journalists and here we are.
February 11, 2026 at 3:03 AM
This is outrageous.
Broligarchs owning media is the predictable end of vertical media mergers.
David Ellison will host an exclusive dinner “honoring” Trump next week.

It comes as he’s waiting for regulatory approval of Paramount’s proposal to buy Warner Bros., which would create a massive pro-Trump media monopoly.

What is he going to promise Trump at this dinner?

Hello???

Media is fragmenting at the bottom (user bases, viewers, subscribers) and consolidating at the top (unprecedented mergers of media megacorporations). Bluesky is a symptom, not a cause.

$111 billion (plus perks) really is a lot to pay for a stumbling, mismanaged media giant eroded by four previous pointless and disastrous mergers
BREAKING 🚨 🚨 🚨

Warner Bros. Discovery on Friday formally signed an agreement to be acquired by Paramount Skydance, the two companies announced, setting the stage for one of the most consequential media mergers in recent history.

It’s darkly funny that the media conglomerates turned on Biden because he blocked mergers for good reasons (antitrust) and now they’re stuck with a guy who blocks mergers for bad reasons (bribery).

i really hope media companies aren't all consolidated by mega corporations none or these mergers are a good thing and they should be trust busted.
