No, we stop at MEFs, but we have three of them (plus MFR, which was once rebuilt as a shadow fourth MEF in the 60s and still looks a bit like one), so what would we call it if we built a gigantor MAGTF out of all the MEFs? My guess is we'd call it a MEC.

MEUs, MEBs, and MEFs are really best understood as task forces that have no permanently assigned units (except maybe some command and logistics), but are assigned component ground and air units on a rotational and/or as-needed basis.

Again, would compositing a MEB from several MEUs be enough? No. Would a MEF be enough? No. If we composited three MEFs into some theoretical larger MAGTF, like a Marine Expeditionary Corps, at which point we can just omit the "expeditionary" since we've sent the whole instititution, it isn't enough.

Taking this idea further, if we could magic an entire MEF into Iran, would it help? No! If we composited three MEFs into some theoretical larger MAGTF, like a Marine Expeditionary Corps, at which point we can just omit the "expeditionary" since we've sent the whole instititution, it isn't enough.
Even if there was a MEU there...even if there were enough MEUs there to composite a MEB...the troop to task would be like a fart in a hurricane. The concept of operations would be like Daniel Dravot and Peachy Carnehan explaining their plan to take over Kafiristan with 20 rifles.
5) as for Marines, same considerations plus it would drag them away from their new focus on countering China. As far as I know there is no amphibious assault fleet with U.S. naval forces off Iran.

I’m especially proud that our efforts here at MARFORPAC, aka “Pacific Marines,” to pivot I MEF to the Pacific have taken root through a re-alignment of MRF-D, the initiation of Marine Rotational Force- Southeast Asia (MRF-SEA), and more deeply engaging with our allies and partners in the region.
