#megatooth
Some of the studies I made of the extinct megatooth shark Otodus megalodon, for an upcoming commission I can hopefully share soon. Megalodon is known almost exclusively from fossil teeth, which have not been found articulated with jaws.

The remarkably large vertebrae, measuring up to 23 centimeters across, provide physical evidence supporting previous estimates that this extinct megatooth shark could reach around 24.3 meters (80 feet) in length.

Tyrant Lizard Queen is my third narrative book, MEGATOOTH will be the fourth, but they feel so different from the previous two.

I think because they both are centered on a core individual, an animal I’m not just learning about but getting to know. Personality. “Would Fin really do that? Hm.”

Really love the unique shape of the megatooth here, have you taken inspiration from whale sharks?

Did you know that if you’re getting crowns on two adjacent molars the dentist will just give you one temporary crown that covers both nubs?

Finish your T. rex. Then you can have some big shark.

I’ve been collecting inspiration songs for MEGATOOTH and The Terminator theme just fits Fin best. I can’t hear it without thinking of her cruising along, coming up from the edge of the shelf to keep her belly close to the sea bottom, at ease until there’s that subtle cue…

Relentless. 🦈

I love that a day at the beach looking for Miocene shark teeth counts as research.

MEGATOOTH coming winter 27/28 🦈
So we’ve got

Carcharhinus
Isurus
Hemipristis serra
A couple croc teeth
and, of course
Carcharodon hastalis

Not bad for a day at the beach. 🦈

You know the part of When the Earth Was Green where the mosquito is trapped in amber? I cried. I wasn't going to call it finished until I did.

More surprising was that I accidentally scared myself while writing MEGATOOTH the other day, for something I knew I was going to write and yet...
Authors, do you ever get emotional or cry while you're writing?

I have done it, but I know that I am a very easy crier. Curious if anyone else is in the same boat!

Had enough therapy to pause while writing MEGATOOTH and ask myself “Where do I feel the shark in my body?”
