Todd Haynes‘ Far from Heaven (2002) is the best and bravest movie of 1957, although it was released in 2002. Its themes, values and style faithfully reflect the social melodramas of the 1950s, but it’s bolder, and says out loud what those films only hinted at.

If you'd told me in 2001 that the guy who played Coop in Wet Hot American Summer would go on to direct trashy melodramas (as well as the movie that netted a beloved actress her first Oscar), I'd have thought you were high.

The fact that Okada doesn't do New Japan-style epic melodramas anymore really obscures how great he still is for a lot of people. He remains an excellent wrestler.
