Mensturation is probably the closest thing I have to that description. I'm writing about teenagers and my MC is a girl. It helps both mark the passage of time and is just an ordinary part of her life.
It's normal and I think shouldn't be more taboo to write about than murder.

Also menopause = lack of mensturation for an extended period of time, for various reasons. Depo shot can do that, but is also a risk long term & only stops "female" hormones. My injections were stronger & also stop testosterone, to prevent any unwanted issues.
