Right Watcher is looking right, has one gold hand down in a model-like pose, and one hand at shoulder height, holding a spear with sharp hooks beneath the spear head. They also have gold horns and red dragon wings, but their red corset is brocade fabric, and has black straps and gold hooks in the front. Their waist is pulled in tight (they might not have a body, so the fact that the corset only has light boning doesn’t matter). They also have a shiny purple pointy halo headband. They are ignoring the other Watcher, and sing very loudly “I FEEL PRETTY, LA LA, LA-A!”. Someone did NOT spray paint their halo black! Very pretty! A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of my OC, the Basket Creature, a horrible Victorian toy based on a creature inside a basket held by an automaton. It is a bunny, or a lamb, or whatever; it’s beige fur with pink ears and a fluffy whiteish tail. It has huge eyes with green irises and pinpoint pupils, and a beak-like head that has a permanently open mouth with a pink tongue hanging out. The story: The housewarming party had gone well. A few late guests were concentrating on a fierce game of Jenga, when we heard a noise from the basement. We stared at each other, confused. We don’t have pets. Or kids. It didn’t sound like the water pipes. It sounded unearthly. In silent accord, our group crept to the basement door. A muffled “MAAAAH!” scared a tiny “eek!” from Elaine. The “SSHHHH!” from everyone else was much louder. We threw open the door. Everyone froze. A small fuzzy creature stared at us, blinking in the bright light. We stared back. Was it a rabbit? A lamb? Perhaps a haunted dust bunny, animated by demonic basement forces? Whatever it was, it appeared to be playing “pretty unicorn princess fairy”, to judge by the pointed purple party hat on its head, and the wand gripped in its shapeless paws. A dark menacing shadow stretched out behind it, flowing over the red carpet and up the non-matching red wall (the previous owners did that; it’s not our fault). The creature did not move; it just stared at us with panicked eyes. We slowly closed the door, and locked it. We didn’t really NEED a basement, did we? Maybe we could brick up the door, just in case. Upstairs, Elaine opened another bottle of wine. “MAAAAAAAAAH!” echoed faintly from downstairs. I drained my wineglass, and held it out for a refill. A marker and paint pen coloured photocopy (of an ink drawing I drew), colour test in pink. A seated mercreature with a body and fins in the style of a pink frilly finned betta fish, looking over their shoulder to the left. There is a wine glass stemmed in red coral, filled with purple bubbly liquid by their outstretched left hand, which is resting on a rock behind the glass (on the right of the image). Their scaled body and frilly tail flukes look like an evening gown (the kind called mermaid style - irony!), spread out around the bend where on a human, there would be knees, and their right hand is resting on that bend. They have a frilled fin on their head which looks like hair waving in the current, and the fins along their back and upper arms are also moving in the current. The fins and flukes have frilly edges and delicate lines shading the places where the fins overlap. Their entire body is pink, except for their eyes, which have white sclera and purple irises. Their face has a fish-pout mouth and large, hooded eyes with a gill slit curved behind. They look very bored. They have already texted the Lobstermer about the party, and suggested they get pizza and watch a movie (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, or maybe The Meg). A tiny pink-orange shrimp (that might have been a cocktail garnish) is floating above the wine glass, among the bubbles from the glass. A purple sea anemone is on the rock to the right of the mercreature, polyps facing towards their right hand, bubbles coming from the center of the anemone. Tiny blurry writing at top right says: “This sea anemone is getting fresh with me.”. No, sea anemone, you may not come over for pizza. Swipe left! Swipe left!

I have a migraine, which has happened too much this month, but here is some recent work! 😊💜
“Bridesman” - a marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a male mercreature dressed as a wedding attendant, with pink anemones and purple & pink kelp ribbons on his head and tail. His tail is magenta pink scales, curled around is most of an S shape, with tan brown flukes that match his tan brown body. He has large black eyes and a snub nose like a hognose snake. His body and face is dotted with darker brown freckles (and for some reason, I gave him a bellybutton, even though he isn’t a mammal). He is holding a bouquet made of the same pink anemones and purple kelp ribbons as his head and tail decorations. The head, tail, and bouquet was inspired by the jewel anemone. I’m pretty sure those anemones are going to be difficult to scrape off, but what the heck, he’s a very cute bridesman! A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a letter on a tag-style background. The tag is edged with dark orange-red and gold. The letter is a B in Art Nouveau style font, also edged in gold and dark orange-red, with an interior fill of orange butterfly weed buds and one flower at the right point between the upper and lower parts of the B. The flowers behind are butterfly weed, a bushy orange native flower with bright green leaves that is related to milkweed, and is eaten by monarch caterpillars. The plants go from the base of the tag to just below the hole for hanging, which is surrounded by the sun and blue sky above the flowers. There are dotted lines around the tag and hole for cutting it out. Underneath, hand lettering reads “Asclepias Butterfly weed (A. tuberosa)”, with “Virginia Wildflowers” lettered underneath slightly smaller. (The lettering underneath is on a separate piece of paper cut to size, as I made a mistake, and didn’t want to redraw the whole thing.) Flower reference: Wikimedia Commons, many, many public domain photos. Letter inspiration: Dover edition of “Treasury of Authentic Art Nouveau Alphabets, Decorative Initials, Monograms, Frames and Ornaments (Schriftenatlas)”, edited by Ludwig Petzendorfer, plate 52. Style inspiration: ibid., plate 90. (The letters in that plate gave me the idea, but they do not look like my drawing.) A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing for a label or hanging tag banner design. The main design is a letter of the alphabet, with wildflowers behind it that start with the same letter. The flower is a pinkster azalea, a wild cousin of the azaleas that grow in people’s gardens. It is a bushy short tree, with thin branches, that grows in forests. The leaves are bright green in the spring, the flowers are pink to almost white, a darker pink on the buds and stamens. The letter is A (for Azalea), drawn in an Art Noveau font, edged in dark pink and gold, filled with azalea buds and a single bloom in the top right corner, at the point of the A. The tag is designed with a hole for hanging, which is surrounded by a sun and blue sky above the leaves of the azalea. The tag is outlined in dark pink and gold. Underneath the label, hand lettering reads: “AZALEA Pinkster (Rhododendron periclymenoides) Virginia wildflowers”. (Azaleas and rhododendrons are poisonous; this includes the honey made by bees that gather nectar from their flowers! Just FYI.) This is part of a planned series. Letter inspiration: Dover edition of “Treasury of Authentic Art Nouveau Alphabets, Decorative Initials, Monograms, Frames and Ornaments (Schriftenatlas)”, edited by Ludwig Petzendorfer, plate 52. The dragons are looking at each other with big black eyes, and the one at the bottom is reaching up towards the other dragon, who is clinging to the top of the window, their tail hanging down on the right. Both their tails twist around each other on the right side of the frame.

When queer cis people want to deny trans women the right to use the public bathroom of their gender, compete athletically in their gender class, or anything else that denies their rights, I get angry. >:( Trans people fought for our rights. As cis queer people, we should loudly defend theirs. On the altar is a grey jug filled with green leaf fronds, and a grey bowl filled with green fruit. Behind the altar are three ghosts, the one in the middle reaching for the fruit. The octopus is holding a glowing fluorescent yellow rolled scroll representing her magic, and is wearing a pair of silver-studded goggles and a top hat striped in the AroAce (aromantic asexual) pride colours (orange, yellow, white, light blue and dark blue) with the symbol of the full moon with two crescent moons attached on either side in the front. The decorative fence has similar glowing fluorescent yellow orbs on the top. Underneath, grey steps surround the card title, The High Priestess, in silver-edged lettering in the AroAce Pride colours on a white ground, with soft yellow shadows. The card indicates a need for introspection, and looking within for answers. (Thank you for reading my very long alt text.) Their head fins make a halo around their head. The tail flukes match. (This is the mercreature with Cthulhu’s MLM, R’yelway, after a hard day of “encouraging” their downline.) Background is a dark red wall, non-matching red carpet, light coming from upper right and casting shadow. Playing is all well and good, but sometimes, after a long day of Pretty Pretty Unicorn Princess Fairy (and some screaming), you just need a rest in your basket.

Oh, here’s a wip & finished of a mercreature I did last year. I start with a mechanical pencil sketch, ink it in, then layer marker & paint. This one you can see the gold paint going down.
“These Are Pearls That Were His Eyes” - A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing (WiP) of a mercreature with light orange skin and a red tail, wearing lots of jewelry and a filmy white spangled scarf, holding a glowing orb above and in front of their head, face in profile, facing left, with their tail curled around to the left. Their long claws are gold, and both arms and hands are stretched to hold the orb. Their red scales are decorated with gold (unfinished). There are three other sea creatures staring at the orb: lower left, a small orange octopus, top left, a purple fish, and center top, an eel, with their head facing the orb so that both eyes are visible, their body behind and slightly above, weaving back and forth. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing (with digital markup for the meme) of a galaxy frog mercreature, the Constellation tadpole, based on the tiny (2-3cm) galaxy frog that lives in India’s Western Ghats. The mer-tadpole is deep blue/black with pale blue dots that look like stars under artificial light, and red markings on their underside. They have enormous black eyes, and red fins down either side of their tail, like an eel. The frog is facing right, posed in profile looking up. Their front paws are posed with paw tips down on the left, and up on the right. Their right paw has a white digitally drawn banner, that says “You’re the best!” in crude black writing (I’m not very good w/ writing digitally). The frog also has a speech bubble with star emojis that says “Thank you for the tag!”. Background is variegated greens, like algae, with tiny white dots.

A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of my OC, the Basket Creature, a horrible Victorian toy based on a creature inside a basket held by an automaton. It is a bunny, or a lamb, or whatever; it’s beige fur with pink ears and a fluffy whiteish tail. It has huge eyes with green irises and pinpoint pupils, and a beak-like head that has a permanently open mouth with a pink tongue hanging out. The story: The housewarming party had gone well. A few late guests were concentrating on a fierce game of Jenga, when we heard a noise from the basement. We stared at each other, confused. We don’t have pets. Or kids. It didn’t sound like the water pipes. It sounded unearthly. In silent accord, our group crept to the basement door. A muffled “MAAAAH!” scared a tiny “eek!” from Elaine. The “SSHHHH!” from everyone else was much louder. We threw open the door. Everyone froze. A small fuzzy creature stared at us, blinking in the bright light. We stared back. Was it a rabbit? A lamb? Perhaps a haunted dust bunny, animated by demonic basement forces? Whatever it was, it appeared to be playing “pretty unicorn princess fairy”, to judge by the pointed purple party hat on its head, and the wand gripped in its shapeless paws. A dark menacing shadow stretched out behind it, flowing over the red carpet and up the non-matching red wall (the previous owners did that; it’s not our fault). The creature did not move; it just stared at us with panicked eyes. We slowly closed the door, and locked it. We didn’t really NEED a basement, did we? Maybe we could brick up the door, just in case. Upstairs, Elaine opened another bottle of wine. “MAAAAAAAAAH!” echoed faintly from downstairs. I drained my wineglass, and held it out for a refill. A marker and paint pen coloured photocopy (of an ink drawing I drew), colour test in pink. A seated mercreature with a body and fins in the style of a pink frilly finned betta fish, looking over their shoulder to the left. There is a wine glass stemmed in red coral, filled with purple bubbly liquid by their outstretched left hand, which is resting on a rock behind the glass (on the right of the image). Their scaled body and frilly tail flukes look like an evening gown (the kind called mermaid style - irony!), spread out around the bend where on a human, there would be knees, and their right hand is resting on that bend. They have a frilled fin on their head which looks like hair waving in the current, and the fins along their back and upper arms are also moving in the current. The fins and flukes have frilly edges and delicate lines shading the places where the fins overlap. Their entire body is pink, except for their eyes, which have white sclera and purple irises. Their face has a fish-pout mouth and large, hooded eyes with a gill slit curved behind. They look very bored. They have already texted the Lobstermer about the party, and suggested they get pizza and watch a movie (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, or maybe The Meg). A tiny pink-orange shrimp (that might have been a cocktail garnish) is floating above the wine glass, among the bubbles from the glass. A purple sea anemone is on the rock to the right of the mercreature, polyps facing towards their right hand, bubbles coming from the center of the anemone. Tiny blurry writing at top right says: “This sea anemone is getting fresh with me.”. No, sea anemone, you may not come over for pizza. Swipe left! Swipe left! The Star, Asexual - A marker, ink, and paint pen, and photocopy of my original drawing of the tarot card The Star, (done 6/11/25, with no background), drawn in the asexual (ace) flag colours (black, grey, white and purple). I wanted to add a background, but was not sure how it would turn out, so I printed out a copy of the original to experiment. This was finished exactly a year later, 6/11/26. The octopus is purple, wearing a top hat tilted to the left, with the crown done in the ace flag colours, and a black brim. The octopus is holding a large fluorescent yellow star in their front tentacles/arms, and they are holding a purple-grey pitcher up with another right arm, so that water flows out and over the right corner of the card title, The Star, hand-drawn at the bottom of the image. The title is purple letters edged in gold, with a purple border. The background is a pink and purple nebula at the bottom, and stars at the top on a background of purple-black space. The number of the card (17) is at the top right hand corner of the image, done in the ace flag colours in Roman numerals. A white crow wearing a black top hat and goggles is standing on the pitcher, facing left. The octopus is wearing grey goggles decorated with gold six-pointed stars around each eye piece. There are seven large stars throwing six light points scattered within the nebula. The Star represents hope, inspiration, and a prosperous future. The pouring water denotes creativity, the seven stars, the cardinal virtues (kindness, empathy, generosity, friendship, love, humour, and dependability)*, and the white bird, peace. The drawing is 6.75 inches by 8 inches. *You choose your cardinal virtues, I choose mine. =) A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of the tarot card Judgement, in my octopus tarot. The orange octopus is facing slight right, blowing hard into a glowing yellow horn held in her two front arms, cartoon cheeks distended. She is wearing a brown gold studded aviator helmet (like the blue octopus in my Temperance card), under a wreath of pink and gold laurels like a halo around her head. Her aviator helmet chin straps are flying back from their face, like she is blowing a powerful note on her glowing magic trumpet, and the strap exploded. She has feather wings made of a single row of feathers (like a fan), in the colours of the lesbian pride flag (red, orange, white, pink, magenta, repeated, 10 feathers on each side). The feathers are worked in paint to look like beautiful shaded long-vaned feathers, in an art nouveau style. The wing tips sit on either side of the glowing yellow sun at center top, that has the number of the card (22) in magenta Roman numerals edged with gold in the center. The octopus is standing on pink fluffy clouds, and the background sky is light blue away from the sun. At the bottom of the card is the title, Judgement, in magenta hand lettering on the white center of the lesbian pride flag, orange and red stripes above, and pink and magenta stripes below, with gold lines between them. Judgement can mean the start or end of a stage in life, or a decision that will affect everything. Transformation, a fresh start, rebirth, awakening, a major life change, or a chance to forgive, and start over.
