Ugh. Four days is a long time. I was using them, but have been steadily migrating to metaname.net. They are NZ local based in Christchurch. That's all they do and are pretty easy to use.

I like using metaname for my domain registrar for .nz domains, and I'd recommend them to others. They're very good at immediately activating their "individual registrant privacy option" to keep your contact information private, whereas I've had overseas registrars take weeks to sort that out

I use metaname for a few domains and have had no problems. They are *waaaay* better at handling `.nz` domains than the overseas-based registrar I was using earlier, especially if you want to keep your contact details private

For domain try metaname.net if you want NZ based. Porkbun.com is an overseas alternative.

I've been steadily migrating to Metaname as a registrar. Using Rimu for a variety of hosting and for DNS management. This has been the best local combination that I've found for my needs.

Voyager, Sitehost are the two largest (NZ owned & run) for hosting & domains. ( So Metaname is part of Voyager & Myhost is part of Sitehost etc.)
I'm a WordPress person so I also like wpnet.nz and there are some other specialised hosts like Rimu who are very good too.

I went with 1stDomains because more than one person claimed over a decade of good service, but the Mastodon people also highly recommend Metaname.

I use hover, they don't offer it for .nz domains, but I'll have a look at Metaname 👀 Maybe it was just the one I looked at, they explicitly hid everything but your name. It was a local nz domain provider

You can! The DNC offers an Individual Registrant Privacy Option (often abbreviated to IRPO). You just need to make sure you pick a registrar with good support

Now in the market for a .nz registrar with 2FA and good security posture cheaper than Gandi's AUD$51.44 renewals!
Considering Metaname (but their site is still basically the hello world rails app). 1stdomains is cheap but stagnant. Crazydomains has 2FA but only SMS. :-/
