A nice tutorial on distributed lag models using #rstats 📦 {mgcv}. But if you want to fit these to time series you might want to consider the {mvgam} 📦 instead ecogambler.netlify.app/blog/distrib...

I wrote a thing about using the gratia 📦 for #RStats, which makes working with #GAMs and the mgcv 📦 a little easier and, dare I say, prettier

🚨 GAMs have moved on—so it’s time for an update.

On March 3, 2026 (17:00–19:00 CET) I’ll be livestreaming an updated introduction to Generalized Additive Models in R

Our new review highlights useful links (and differences) between Bayesian and frequentist approaches to smoothing, in an accessible way, with a focus on the mgcv implementation. Read more here 👇

If nothing else, this highlights the utility and (dare I say) flexibility of the #mgcv #rstats package!!

During the livestream, I'll be covering:

• what GAMs are and how they work
• recent mgcv updates (incl. Hierarchical GAMs)
• new features in gratia
• deeper inference with marginaleffects

spiciness in return: I’d be more inclined to read beyond the abstract there if I didn’t live in a world where mgcv::gam() solved all my problems

#StatsPubs No matter how many times you read it, this paper on hierarchical GAMs keeps giving. Clear model explanations together with R code (mgcv). So useful!
