Fox News host Pete Hegseth has said on air that he has not washed his hands for 10 years because "germs are not a real thing".
Speaking on Fox and Friends, Hegseth said the infectious micro-organisms did not exist because they could not be seen with the naked eye.
"I inoculate myself,"
Pete Hegseth is a weekend morning anchor on Fox News and is about to run the largest, most powerful bureaucracy in the...history of human civilization.

We are so much more than a vehicle for our 'selves'. We also live with a huge collection of beneficial and antagonistic micro organisms.

Just a quick reminder that Pete Hegseth was also the Fox News host who said he never washes his hands, because he doesn't believe in micro organisms as he can't see them. Of course we're all fucked

I have children in elementary school, so I hear this fact about once a week. Relatedly, the peregrine falcon is the fastest animal, lichens can survive trips to outer space, and tardigrades are the only micro-organisms with legs.
Oh wow, I just learned that dragonflies have a 95% hunting success rate which makes them one of the most effective predators in the world! Thought y’all should know.

Gut micro-organisms associated with health, nutrition and dietary interventions - Nature
Comprehensive large-scale studies of multi-national populations identified microbiome species consistently associated with favourable and unfavourable health markers, informing future studies of the human gut microbiome and its association with diet and cardiometabolic conditions.

Long thought to be sterile, our brains are now believed to harbour all sorts of micro-organisms, from bacteria to fungi.

How big a part do they play in Alzheimer’s and similar diseases?

Stromatolites are fossil evidence of some of the earliest forms of life on earth, and some can be up to 3.45 billion years old! Stromatolites are formed when blankets of photosynthetic single-celled micro-organisms "cement" surrounding sediment in slowly growing layers.

Seamus Blackley collects micro-organisms outside Microsoft's Xbox campus to make sourdough bread, and the bread comes out with the Xbox logo. A thread: 🧵😮👍
Recently I had the amazing- and yet very bizarre- experience of going to Xbox HQ as a visitor. I had been invited by Asha, who is very cool it turns out, to have a hike and hang out a bit. I’ll probably talk more about that another time.

But first let’s talk about microorganisms.
