“For the first time in more than a decade, 2026 will see no women promoted to the US Navy’s admiral rank — even as women now account for one-quarter of all Navy officers, nearly one-third of the service’s midgrade ranks, and about 20 percent of the service overall.”

I respect you fancy people who pay for fancy gas. My truck gets the cheap gas because it has a cheap owner. But who is paying for midgrade? Marshall Zelinger reports for Next:

Saw someone refer to Bonne Maman jelly as something for rich kids, and I need folks to update their stereotypes and understanding of the shelf price situation. Bonne Maman isn’t rich, it’s midgrade now.

Finally got poked and prodded enough by friends to join Bluesky. For those who are interested: I am a midgrade and YA graphic novelist (illustrator/writer) as well as an educator, teaching adults how to make better, awesomer comics over at Kids Comics Unite.

this is where I mention I wrote a Māori midgrade fantasy novel with a trans MC that we ended up taking to market *right* as Trump swept into office and every publisher got extremely gun-shy about trans books all of a sudden. I still have it. It'll probably never come out.
It's so weird that books can die on sub. You can write a whole book and your agent can take it out into the world and the world can go "nah" and now you've just ... got a book nobody wants? A year's work that's worthless?

I don't know what I imagined was actually happening, but I just read that the midgrade gas at the station is just a machine blending the low and high octane fuels at the pump.

“embarrassing”
“below our institution"
"bleeding talent, talented generals and flag officers, for what appears to be the opposite of a meritocracy"
"a lot of backbiting and mistrust and general unprofessionalism"

I appreciate everybody telling me to self-publish has their heart in the right place, but it's midgrade. Kids' books don't do well on places like KDP.

this is exactly correct; the difference between midgrade mass-produced supermarket Turkish delight and artisan small-batch Turkish delight (which would have been the only type Lewis would reference for the Narnia books) is bigger than just about any other foodstuff
