New diary format I'm testing in my minicomp this week: draw yourself talking with a fictional character.

Posting this as an example of what can be done. 📓

Very personal! I redacted a lot! Prompted by an intense week at work. I often feel out of place there!

Hey @elotroalex.bsky.social and @roopikarisam.bsky.social! 👋 Happy Friday! I made a starter pack for #minicomp folks, but I'm sure I left people out. Any suggestions for additions? go.bsky.app/L2Zas63

Want to know something else that's neat about making low-emission sites in 2025? They probably will last longer than the gas guzzlers.

My most digital humanities–coded trait (I am an extremely analog person, for the most part) is being a minicomp evangelist, because ⬇️

since the last time I showed my graphic design stuff went surprisingly viral, here's some more of my stuff for an alternate timeline I'm working on (and yes, the dates are correct):

I definitely read a minicomp vibe in his "passionate hobby" argument. Imho, I think that's right. Minicomp is the past and the future. Of course, I'm biased because in the Caribbean that's all we have had and will have for the foreseeable future. We've been post-apocalyptic for a minute now.

Minicomp review frame diary. 📓 Before this, I wrote out a few things I Did, Saw, and Heard. I also wrote a Question and one thing I'm Grateful for...

Sorry, this is in response to that historian soliciting app advice post, and also to the many times that people have asked me for similar advice...expecting some fancy app answer. No, in this house we are analog, and #minicomp evangelists if we are anything tech

Because there aren't algorithms to push this into your feed, I'm reposting this with hashtags this time! #edtech #digitalpedagogy #minicomp #dhmakes

Two review frames in the pocket minicomp. 📓 I have a two day streak. Day one doing Lynda Barry diary exercises always feels good, but day two feels amazing.

That said, I'm going to be working this whole year to learn how to deploy LLMs in minicomp environments. Some great conversations with @lucidbard.bsky.social and others about possibilities for the future.

The GO::DH minimal computing folks are amazing and inspiring. I have learned so much from @elotroalex.bsky.social and the rest of the #minicomp crew. They inspired me to ditch #WordPress try #Jekyll and then #11ty. *

It was not very difficult choosing which moment to draw and write about!

(I loved Coyote VS Acme. Laughing at slapstick cartoons with other adults in a theater feels good.)

Good to hear you found our work and ideas useful. I myself turned to 11ty recently out of Jekyll. I'm almost done with a full migration of our journal archipelagos to 11ty. Much faster and elegant, still minicomp to the bone.

Probably the best critique of the limits of minimal computing for thinking about energy. Hard to disagree with. If you ask me, minicomp focuses on solving small problems and painting with a thin brush. The big ones might require what @javiercha.bsky.social et al propose here—inter alia.

I got really into learning about minicomp aka minimal computing principles a few years ago because of this kind of shit. Ugh. I hope you have more success later this week!!

The whole suite is available at affordably for those who can’t or don’t want to self-host, and the final product of a project can be built as a static website, hostable freely, and independently of the software (static images, maps and search coming soon) #dh2025 #minicomp
