"They Blessed A Man Indicted For Trafficking Minors — And Called It 'Strong Families'" - 4 October 2026
Kia ora whānau.
I am Ivor Jones, The Māori Green Lantern — Te Arawa, Ngāti Pikiao, Welsh blood under Māori skin
> — and I fight the misinformation and disinformation machine of the far right from themaorigreenlantern.maori.nz.
This essay covers five things, in order.
First, the framework I test everything against — tika, pono, tikanga — and the five questions any system must answer about mana, whakapapa, wairua, whānau and wellbeing.
Second, the documented record: what New Zealand First's Takanini candidate wrote about Andrew Tate, what NZ First said when confronted, and what the courts and prosecutors say about the man he blessed.

Third, three examples for the western mind — classroom, suicide ledger, and political pipeline — each with quantified harm, a solution, and the tikanga impact explained in plain English.
Fourth, the numbers, shown with their working: every figure in this essay carries its formula or source.
Fifth, the ballot box: why this white-supremacist-adjacent neoliberal coalition must never hold power again after November, and why the Green Party has earned the alternative.
I would love for you to click on this essay, because there is a wealth of information here you can use in your daily life — at the dinner table, at the mahi, at the polling booth. I have created an audio podcast that lays out this kaupapa in detail.
There is a short video that explains it to anyone with five minutes. And for the long-form readers, the 3,000-word fully cited essay you are reading now is waiting. All of it is a repository for our mokopuna — so that one day they can look back and say: at least we knew The Māori Green Lantern, amongst a few, was warning us.

## The Framework: Tika, Pono, Tikanga — And The Five Questions
Everything I write is tested the same way, because this is how our tūpuna tested everything.
Tika asks: is it right? Pono asks: is it true? Tikanga asks the harder question of any system — did it preserve their mana, recognise their whakapapa, respect their wairua, involve their whānau, and return them to wellbeing?
> If a system fails those five tests, it is mauri-depleting. If it passes, it is mauri-enhancing. Hold those five questions in your hand like the five grooves of a taiaha. Now watch what happens when we run a by-election of the soul — Takanini 2026 — against them.

## The Blessing, In His Own Hand — Tested Against Pono
Pono means truth, and the truth here is written in a candidate's own posts.
> On 3 October 2026, reporter Paula Penfold of Stuff published the receipts: between September and December 2022, Elliot Ikilei — NZ First's candidate for Takanini and spokesman for Hobson's Pledge — praised Andrew Tate as "awesome" and "useful for many young men".
> On 18 September 2022 he wrote Tate "arguably do[es] some good. Context is important."
> On 4 December: "Tate is awesome."
> On 5 December: Tate had been "useful for many young men who have had their masculinity attacked for years."
Context, e te tā? Gladly.
> By the time those posts were written, Andrew Tate had declared himself "absolutely a misogynist" on camera, and had been thrown off Twitter for claiming women should "bear responsibility" for being sexually assaulted. Then came the calendar itself, and the calendar does not blink: twenty-five days after the word "awesome" — 4 December to 29 December 2022, working shown below — Romanian prosecutors detained Tate in a human-trafficking investigation. Two days after the arrest, when wāhine everywhere were reckoning with what the "lover boy" method allegations meant, Ikilei's response was a pivot to Epstein's list.
Where is Tate now?
UK prosecutors have authorised 21 charges against the brothers — rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking, controlling prostitution for gain. Last month, Romania indicted Andrew Tate again, this time for trafficking minors, sex with a minor, money laundering and witness tampering, with prosecutors saying he kept €1 million (about $1.25 million) of one victim's earnings. He denies everything, and every charge is alleged until proven — I record that here because pono demands it.
> But no allegation can scrub the candidate's own timestamps. Confronted with all of this, did NZ First retract, review, or even blink? No: a spokesperson declared the party "not some sort of Gestapo word-police". Pono test failed.

## Koha — Support This Mahi
You might ask who supports The Māori Green Lantern to produce high-volume, fully cited essays like this.
The answer: you do — koha and nothing else.
There is no corporate line behind this essay; NZ First has its donors, Hobson's Pledge has its infrastructure, the manosphere has its algorithms; all I have is whānau. Every koha signals that rangatiratanga includes the power to support our own truth-tellers when the coalition and the corporate structures will not. Four pathways exist:

## The Five Questions, Asked Of Every Actor
Tikanga's five questions now go to work, actor by actor:
### Did the system preserve their mana? No.
NZ First's own website presents Ikilei as the party's Takanini candidate, citing "strong families" advocacy, while he carries documented praise of a man indicted for trafficking minors. A party platform built on mana restoration cannot survive blessing mana destruction.
### Did it recognise their whakapapa? No — and this one cuts deepest.
Ikilei writes that he carries Māori, Niuean, Tongan and English whakapapa, naming Te Āti Awa, in his own Hobson's Pledge introduction. He then stands for an organisation founded by Don Brash in 2016 explicitly to campaign against what Brash calls Māori "favouritism".
Whakapapa is not a costume you wear to argue your own people out of the room.
### Did it respect their wairua?
The wairua of our boys is the commodity here, so read the verified numbers from the classrooms: 80% of UK boys aged 16–17 had consumed Tate's content, per Hope Not Hate polling cited in a peer-reviewed 2025 analysis; 76% of secondary teachers were extremely concerned about online misogyny in schools; 59% of 5,800 surveyed teachers said social media had degraded pupil behaviour, including a boy of ten refusing to speak to a woman teacher "because I follow Andrew Tate".
The wairua of our tāne was sold a mirror made of a cage.
### Did it involve their whānau?
The manosphere's whole model severs boy from whānau and sells him back his loneliness at scale — 10.7 million followers on X and tens of billions of TikTok views, with "Hustlers University" described by Tristan Tate himself, as reported, as "all a big scam".
Whānau were not involved. They were bypassed.
### Did it return them to wellbeing?
Ask the ledger. 602 suspected self-inflicted deaths in Aotearoa in 2025/26; 457 of them male; males aged-standardised at 15.8 per 100,000 against 5.1 for females — a ratio of 3.1; Māori at 15.8, the highest of any ethnic group, 3.8 points above European/Other. In 2023 Māori men sat at 21.7 per 100,000.
No system that fails this count can call itself family values.

## Three Examples For The Western Mind
Let me translate tikanga for readers who did not grow up inside it — three documented examples, each with the quantified harm, the solution, and the tikanga impact spelt out.
### The Classroom
The NASUWT union surveyed 5,800 UK teachers in January 2025; 59% said social media had negatively affected pupil behaviour, and teachers named Andrew Tate directly — boys as young as ten refusing to engage with wāhine kaiako.
Quantified harm: 59% of a 5,800-teacher sample, with 76% of secondary teachers extremely concerned about online misogyny.
Solution, in plain English: mandatory digital-media literacy that names the manosphere's business model out loud.
Tikanga impact: mana wahine is the principle that women carry standing and authority equal to their mahi; a boy taught to sneer at his teacher's authority has had his mauri traded for an algorithm.
### **The Whānau Ledger**
Quantified harm on this side of the moana: 602 suspected self-inflicted deaths last year, 457 of them male — that is 457 divided by 602, which is 75.9%, more than three-quarters of the toll — and Māori carrying the top rate at 15.8 per 100,000.
Solution: funded kaupapa Māori and Pacific men's wellbeing services that meet tāne where they stand, instead of destroyed ones. Note the coalition amputated Te Aka Whai Ora in its first months — I covered the paper trail in "The Crown Ripped Māori Hands From The Health System — Then Called The Amputation 'Patient Care'", in the Māori Green Lantern essay archive.
Tikanga impact: wairua respected means a boy's inner life is tended before it becomes an emergency; ignoring male despair while profiting from its political exploitation is mauri-depletion with a campaign poster stapled to it.
### The Pipeline
Minister Casey Costello — founding trustee of Hobson's Pledge alongside Don Brash, per her Beehive biography — walked the path from lobby spokesman to NZ First MP to Cabinet. Ikilei now follows it, announced as Takanini's candidate for his second run, per the Howick Post.
Quantified harm: two spokespeople for one donor-adjacent infrastructure — which Nicky Hager's Dirty Work, reported by RNZ, calls a "sister organisation" of the Taxpayers' Union inside "the latest front for New Zealand's radical right". I tore the mask off that franchise in "The Taxpayer Mask: How Hager's Dirty Work Rips The Smile Off Neoliberalism's Favourite Front Group" and "The Atlas Alibi: Dane Giraud's 'Grassroots' Megaphone Is A Lobby Machine Wearing A Union Badge", both in the archive.
Solution: voters interrogate candidate archives, media publish them, parties are made to retract in full.
Tikanga impact: rangatiratanga means our voices are not rented to the machine; a spokesman who blesses a misogynist while fronting an anti-Māori lobby is renting ours out twice.
And note how the machine launders even its endorsements: Ikilei highlighted Family First's support of Winston Peters this week per Stuff, while Family First's own Value Your Vote 2026 materials state plainly it "does not endorse or oppose candidates or parties".
> Smoke where they swore there was no fire — the same trick I documented in "We Have Been Conned — But Not By Treaty Ideology. By The Union Selling It To You", at themaorigreenlantern.maori.nz.

## The Pattern Of Disavowal — Tikanga Fails Here Too
Words are sacred under tikanga — your word once given is mana committed.
So weigh this: confronted with his candidate's verbatim words, NZ First answered "Gestapo word-police".
Yet the April 2026 Judicial Conduct Panel report recorded Winston Peters as disavowing a statement attributed to him in the then-Attorney-General's letter concerning Judge Ema Aitken — conflicting recollections the Panel itself called "very unsatisfactory", a saga chronicled by RNZ and tested in the High Court, NZHC 987.
> Disavow the leader's words when they scald; weaponise the candidate's words when they serve. The double standard is the kaupapa.

## The Answer At The Ballot Box — November Belongs To Us
So here it stands, whānau, plain and unblinking.
A coalition government that destroyed Te Aka Whai Ora, stripped te reo funding, drove hunger up and called it efficiency — now asks you to return it to power in November while its Takanini candidate's blessing of a man indicted for trafficking minors is answered with a sneer about Gestapo word-police.
> I say plainly, and as opinion forged on the documented record: do not vote this coalition government back into power.
National, ACT, and New Zealand First have governed over hunger, division, and the sale of te Tiriti piece by piece — I laid the full ledger in "He Riri Nō Te Ngākau — Why This Coalition Government Must Never Govern Again" and "Five Kingmakers, No Conscience: The Coalition Took The Credit, And Whānau Pay The Bill", both in the archive.
Vote Green. Why?
Because the evidence says whānau are already deciding: twenty-eight percent of the Māori roll now say Green, as I documented in "The Twenty-Eight Percent Earthquake: How Whānau Māori Are Walking Away From The Parties That Hurt Them".
The Green Party is the only major party standing in November whose platform defends te Tiriti as law, funds kaupapa Māori wellbeing instead of demolishing it, answers disinformation with evidence, and has no candidate out there blessing indicted misogynists as "useful".
That is not sycophancy — that is the scoreboard of the five questions. Mana preserved, whakapapa recognised, wairua respected, whānau involved, wellbeing returned: count how many of those any coalition policy passed, and you have your booth instructions.
> Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi — engari, he toa takitini.
> My strength is not mine alone; it is of the many.
> Guard the boys. Guard the vote. Kia kaha.
