#misquotes
There are a LOT of posts re Israel's atrocities that use misquotes or false facts.

I do usually double-check. If I ever post inaccurate information, please feel very welcome to correct me and I'll delete my post. Facts matter. I don't want to post misinformation. 🙏 #IsraeliTerrorism

My alt text above misquotes Churchill. Rather than "We shall fight them on the beaches..." he notably declaimed "We shall fight on the beaches..."

So you're not alone in half-remembering quotes!

Too much of a good thing is real, despite the misquotes, Mae West said "too much of a good thing, *can be* wonderful."

Whoa. The new marker misquotes Fed 70, which says "Energy in the Executive is a leading character in the definition of good government" not "Energy in the Executive is the leading character in the definition of good government." There's a big difference in meaning there, and it is also just sloppy.
Trump’s new panels at the President’s House site in Philadelphia most loudly whitewash the intertwined histories of liberty and slavery, but also quietly insist “Article II vests the Executive in a single person”

Whoa. This misquotes Federalist 70, which says "Energy in the Executive is a leading character in the definition of good government" not "Energy in the Executive is the leading character in the definition of good government." There's a big difference in meaning there, and it is also just sloppy.

Nice quote, but you won't find it in any of Lewis Carroll's writings.

Hoffman's 1998 book The Man Who Loves Only Numbers says this. This could be a main source of all the misquotes!

Good catch! And then I love how trump's version of that short little question somehow had to be explained to everyone who already heard it the first time, only now it's as long as War and Peace, contains WAY too many "sirs", and completely misquotes the guy while insulting his body. UGH.

That is what PBD, Rogan, etc. want no part of. To tank repeated denunciations or be slapped with increasingly slanderous names, misquotes, out-of-context clips, and outright audio/visual manipulation (see the Piker v. Jennings suit that has emerged). They don't want that smoke.

So of course a @cnn.com dishonest republican talking head AGAIN misquotes Talarico on his feelings about capitalism. Talarico is against “crony capitalism” that “rewards political bribery and wealth over hard work.”

It’s not that difficult to look it up unless you’re purposely being dishonest.

Notice how he speaks to the reporter and then immediately turns and misquotes him to another reporter WHILE THE FIRST REPORTER IS STANDING THERE. Astounding.
A reporter with Reuters asked Trump if he cancelled his upcoming rally in Kansas because he was sick of travel.

Trump flew off the handle, insulting the reporter's appearance, calling him "sick" and "disgusting."

"I feel perfect. You are disgusting. Put yourself in shape. You look like hell."

Nope. The red and horns come from pagan traditions.
However. According to the Bible, the devil roams around like a lion seeking people to devour. He misquotes the Bible, deceives people and can even do miracles. You might be able to work with that.

Piers has no idea, Naomi cuts through the double chin with words. He hasn't read her book and misquotes from it.
It's lazy panelism.

Piers usually surrounds himself with a mishmash polarized mix of guests, so he's convinced himself (no one else) he's a centrist.

I knew they were BS without looking any of them up. Several I've seen before. They just recycle the old lies and misquotes every now and then.

I treat them as a handy refresher course on radical right-wing talking points/propaganda.

The Mail misquotes Macbeth here - a scene where Macduff, here the avatar of moral good & righteousness, explicitly shows it by welcoming a stranger as kin:

MACDUFF: See, who comes here?
MALCOLM: My countryman, but yet I know him not.
MACDUFF: My ever-gentle cousin, welcome hither.
Prejudices so suppressed they can only be ‘whispered’ in a national newspaper.

In Die Hard 🎄, Gruber misquotes Plutarch regarding Alexander the Great. The line he says actually comes from a Reader’s Digest piece.

No one cares, because they like Die Hard. And the fact that Gruber might be a phony actually sits well with the storyline.

That is, the exact scene The Mail misquotes here is *extremely about* how "a man" should best process his feelings of grief and grievance, and must do so, to ensure a better, more open-hearted country.

MALCOLM:
"Dispute it like a man.”

MACDUFF:
"I shall do so,
But I must also feel it as a man.”

Another arbitrary anniversary hit, so I've seen a lot of misquotes-via-telephone or AI-induced misinformation surrounding this interview recently. So reminder that the entire interview exists, in English, from a reputable translator, and has more than That One Thing.
Tetsuo Yajima, director of the Pokémon XY(Z) anime did an interview with AnimeStyle back in 2016. The interview's been translated piecemeal over the past decade. I had @cosmicmaria.bsky.social translate the whole thing. Now it lives on my site. #anipoke

John wrote it about his own feelings of existential dread, aimlessness, and lack of purpose. The meme misquotes the lyrics and leaves out "Isn't he a bit like you and me" because it didn't fit the narrative, and no wonder. It wasn't about a tyrant at all.

This meme actually misquotes Lieu = he said there were allegations of rape and threats.

Did the media lie about her quote about playing a character? Is she lying? Who knows.

I know the media will run with misquotes or uncharitable interpretations if they can get away with it. It happened to me during my first career in Silicon Valley.
