Personally I like Pi-Star based MMDVM hotspots. Cheap, and easily configured, run on a Raspberry PI Zero 2-W now days (A 35 buck computer and the "hat" (MMDVM module) is about the same under 100 to home brew.

Personally I like Pi-Star based MMDVM hotspots. Cheap, and easily configured, run on a Raspberry PI Zero 2-W now days (A 35 buck computer and the "hat" (MMDVM module) is about the same under 100 to home brew.

I bought a Duplex MMDVM for DMR radio stuff and it has been next to impossible to set up.

An MMDVM hat should work fine on both. And consider buying used. I use a 3b I picked up used as a dedicated DMR hotspot.

Happy days. Spent £35 on a new Pi 3B+. Should have tried disconnecting the MMDVM HAT first, because that's where the fault is. Oooops.
Now I have to apply 3.3V and figure out what's shorted out. Probably a ceramic capacitor. Hopefully not an IC.

Average cost about 50 bucks but cost more today
They run free Pi-Star software (Andy's version) on a Raspberry Pi-Zero w (no longer made but the zero 2 w is $35.00) With an MMDVM module (about 20-30 dollars)
Pi a, Pi b Pi c and Pi-spare (Still in it's box just in case)
