yknow, i didn't even think about how submitting mothmay a tiny bit late in stygians would double as a pride image. i was going to use o death as my moth anyways because i've been wanting to give her a death's head form, and well...

looks like she's my pride moth.

Stygianshade Mothmay prompt. a hybrid between a Stygian and a death's head hawkmoth, the cervine having a nature and death theme, with a brown palette, foliage along her back draping down her now buggy abdomen, marigolds under her wings and along her back, gladioli raising from her hooves. a ribcage clings to her thorax under the standard death's head marking, wings fairly standard to the moth, but with green rather than yellow markings to match her foliage. her deer face is still intact, with a third eye visible, peering back as she peeks over her shoulder, tongue stuck out. her hair is both braided and in a bun, with her antennae tucked back behind the braids. to the bottom left corner is a tiny chibi of a bee-like Primordial Arachnid Stygian, yellow and dark brown, with honeybee markings turning into fleurs-de-lis at the ends. she has sunflowers dotting her body. Above the "bee" is a screenshot of a wikipedia page saying: "It is one of the three species of death's-head hawkmoth genus, Acherontia. The species was first described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1798. It is nocturnal and very fond of honey; they can mimic the scent of honey bees so that they can enter a hive unharmed to get honey. Their tongue, which is stout and very strong, enables them to pierce the wax cells and suck the honey out." The bee is saying "I just think she's neat." with a heart in bi flag colors.

we've been meaning to give nohtos a moth form so here he is as a shastaensis subspecies sheepmoth, but kinda weremothing it. partially aex. :3

an anthro moth, most likely transformed from an aexend seeing as the creature has retained the aex snout (triple nostrils, snout armor, double canines) and the upper limbs are more like paws. most of the rest of the body does not have aexend tells and has transformed fully into a moth. he has a were-moth vibe as a result. he is brown with a beige underbelly, with striking gold outline and stripe markings. his wings, underbelly, antennae, and curly hair are pale to bright pink, and he has scars speckled across his left side and arms that are tinted purple to pink in a late sunset-like gradient. his eyes also have the late sunset purple to pink gradient, with white star-like flecks. he has two regular eyes and one large eye in the center of his tummy. his wings have the same starlight flecks and a triangle on the forewing mirroring his triangle halo, otherwise appearing to be the regular wings of the shastaensis subspecies of sheepmoth. he's wearing gold ear caps and tail rings, a red bandana and undershirt, and a greenish-grey hoodie, and all of his shirts are pushed up over his tummy due to growing extra bug arms.

A red winged moth - Chrysoclista Linneella - wings closed. Black spots and back 'fringing' on them. Head of moth pointing directly upwards. It has long black antennae, and legs which are considerably shorter. Drawn with loose charcoal lines and painted with equally loose watercolour. Some splashes of red paint splattered to echo the black dots of the wings. Black and white moth - Ethmia pusiella - on a green watercolour background. Drawn loosely with charcoal, with splodges of white media. Moth shown with wings folded, horizontally, facing towards the left. Antennae tucked neatly backwards.

I just checked back, and it appears I never shared my praying mantis drawings here. I'm still mostly drawing moths after #mothmay, but wrote an article on one of New Zealand's more surprising invasive species, which led to me drawing praying mantises. #sciart

I've continued drawing since I took part in #MothMay, and while I can't say practice makes perfect, it has certainly helped. Here's my latest moth! #Sciart
A felt pen drawing of a small bird dropping moth (Ponometia erastrioides, Noctuidae). The moth is coloured whitish, brownish green and greyish and sort of resembles a bird dropping if you use your imagination.

As a passionate jigsaw-er (is that a word?), I’ve always wanted to design my own. I had the idea for this image and then created the #MothMay challenge to make sure I actually did it!

One of the Primitive Ghost Moths (Fraus sp.) seen 6/6/25 in a coastal area north of Perth.

There are 25 described species in this genus, all endemic to Australia. This one doesn't match any described so far so could be a new species
