Wow, they made a lot of changes to Cloudy Beach. It probably works better to maintain the mystery in an audiovisual content but I think pretty much everyone, Yuki, Essay, Mozuku, even Hakushi comes across a little worse for those adaptional choices even if it's a more impactful whole. #SHIBOYUGI

142. Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table volume 3 (light novel)

Featuring almost exclusively Cloudy Beach, the game from the final movie of the anime.

I was not cheering as much as during volume 2, but loved the parallel with Candle Woods in the final encounter and what Mozuku pulled off.

Ochiai reaches out to Numi, a cute scientist girl with glasses, and pricks her face with a needle, which freezes her in place and makes her eyes look all blank. She starts floating listlessly backwards. Ochoa: Can’t move, huh? Sorry but you won’t move that body ever again. Numi: [stares blankly] Ochiai holds up a weird worm thing in a tube. Ochiai: What do you think it is? “Sidonia blood nematode.” A parasitic organism I created. With its size it can wholly transcribe a human’s brain or an AI. A new personality takes over the host’s brain, and controls the body instead of the host. Ochiai lifts Numi’s glssses up. Numi does not respond. Mozuku stares creepily. Ochiai drops the nematode onto Numi’s eye. She struggles to say “Sto—“ but doesn’t get much out. It squeezes its wiggly little tentacles into her eyelid. She visibly starts shuddering. Ochiai smiles evilly. The nematode slips fully behind Numi’s eye and takes control of her. We zoom out and see Ochiai lightly holding her around the waist as she floats aimlessly in space. Mozuku is just standing there Mozuku-ing, I guess.
