Bankside view from my office today. So privileged to have permission to #mudlark here. Across the river the northbank and dome of St Paul’s, further east the glass and steel skyscrapers of the City of London visible in the distance behind Millennium Bridge.

Our first creator was Jess, the Barnwell Mudlark, whose art is inspired by the finds that they make whilst mudlarking. Links to their Instagram and Etsy shop can be found in the episode shownotes.

They share anencounter at a location very close to KOFY HQ!

In 1785 mudlark was slang for a hog. By 1796 it also meant men and boys who 'watch under the ships when the tide will permit'.

In my stories, the children at Tallow Reach go out on the mud at low water, and leave what they find on the wall by the pump, in case it's somebody's.

For my #archaeologist 🏺 friends who haven't tried out a solo one page role playing game, here's one you might like to start with! Role play a mudlark watching the tides and seeing what comes up on the foreshore.
Kraldum: a solo fantasy mudlarking RPG is live on Gamefound!

create your mudlark, descend to the foreshore, uncover treasures & ancient mysteries, & do your best to survive.

here begins a megathread where i go on about this thing until all targets are obliterated 💙

Oh my goodness, a mudlark on the Thames has found a HUGE cache of Doves Type!! "Several of the letters have never been found before, including the combined letters ‘fk’ and ‘ct’ which are very rare." Here's his post on Instagram.

Here's a BBC News story about Jason Sandy, the mudlark who's found this particular cache.

No mudlark or urchin for you then.
Okay, it's yours. I'll even throw in unlimited credit in the local coffee shop. But, you have to initiate a huge investment bubble. Purely for educational purposes, you understand.

From a crisp, cold foreshore yesterday where for the first time this autumn the wind went right through me. Three pieces of ancient coral, originating in warmer tropical waters & not native to these islands. Would have arrived here as ballast in a ship’s hull to improve stability #mudlark

Thanks for circling the items! Yes, there are 2 owls in that picture; I didn't miss either of them. Otherwise, I see a broken pipe stem, some terracotta pottery or tile. The item in the upper right with the hole didn't interest me; it might be flint. You'd make an excellent mudlark, you would!
