Our short heat wave has receded, for awhile. A cloudy morning offered a nice walk and flower photos along the river loop. The Willamette, always lovely! And some wildflowers. Finally a decent chicory shot, with mullein in the background.
The Willamette River as it flows near my home, always lovely even at low water levels. In the foreground is the riverbank, and an overhanging tree. Dried grasses suggest fall is coming. Across the river, tall trees line the banks. A mixture of tall white and lower deep pink wildflowers. Lots of these in one area. I never know if the white are yarrow, or Queen Anne's Lace, or something else. The pink are sweet peas of some kind. Blue chicory flowers in the foreground on a cloudy day, with yellow mullein flowers behind them.

A few plants that have leapt over the garden fence, seen in Oxfordshire villages this weekend - Straw Foxglove, Hungarian Mullein, Crown-vetch and Nettle-leaved Mullein all from Europe - and Seaside Daisy, a long way from California and Oregon!

A compilation picture of 8 photos of different biennial plants: Hollyhocks, (single in various shades), Teasel, (spiky flower head with little blooms around the middle), Viper's Bugloss, lovely blue flowers with a pink/purple tinge, Clary Sage, pale flowers with pink bracts, very unusual and interesting, Great Mullein, great big yellow flower spike with very soft grey/green leaves, (just what you need if there's a toilet paper shortage, Honesty, early flowerers in purple and white followed by interesting round, flat seedheads, Evening Primrose, softly scented, yellow flowers which open late afternoon/evening and finally, Foxglove, tall spikes with purple bells on them, loved by Bumblebees.
