Eerder deze week uitte de bond felle kritiek op de vele - overwegend ongezonde - multibuys bij de marktleider. Albert Heijn heeft wekelijks gemiddeld ruim 1000 aanbiedingen zoals '1+1 gratis' of '2e halve prijs'. Dat is met afstand het meeste van alle supermarkten in Nederland, blijkt uit onderzoek van de Consumentenbond. Bondsdirecteur Sandra Molenaar doet een dringend appèl op de marktleider: 'Bouw bulkaanbiedingen af en begin bij de ongezonde aanbiedingen.'

Targets will help, but the change to promotional approach is fundamental and so not simple.
More multibuys on fruit and veg will increase costs, so it is more likely to be fewer promotions on unhealthy lines.
Either way, it will put upward pressure on prices.

We have a food environment that does not promote good health. Junk food ads are not the only contributor. Multibuys, processed food, eating al desko, the pursuit of cheapness and the fact that it's always going to be more profitable to sell something processed than unprocessed are all factors.
