a sparrowhawk doing a Tommy Cooper impression "just like that"
a sparrowhawk is stood on top of a metal pole that should hold an umbrella side-on to the camera. One foot is planted on the pole, the other is raised and pointing forwards as its yellow eye gazes forwards. In the background pink flowers provide a garland in soft focus beneath the birds whilst a green hedge forms the main backdrop

I saw yet another hummingbird moth this week! This is not a picture of it but one I took earlier in the year in the garden. It has been quite the year for them here in the UK
a moth that makes like a hummingbird as its wings flap fifty to the dozen in a blur of motion while it drinks from flowers. Here it is hovering above the pink blossom of valerian with its long tongue protruding outwards and downwards into the centre of the flower

a Fieldfare - looking forward to them returning to the UK very soon
such a beautiful silvery bird - quite a chunk! It is bigger than a Song Thrush and has silvery grey plumage on its head and back with a hint of golden brown on its throat. Its flanks have large dark grey arrowheads running down to its tail and smaller speckles under its beak and down the top of its breast with a shiny, almost white breast. It is perched on top of an upright stem with buds set against a bright blue sky

a sparrowhawk's gaze is bearing down on me. Its bright yellow eyes are boring into my soul. its definitely wearing a frown and my life is in danger a young buzzard is sat atop trellising in the garden in profile and facing away from me. However, its stern yellow eye is visible as it looks angrily into the distance, its hooked beak adding gravitas to its stern expression another chunk of a bird giving me the evils. this time a jet black rook with its large chiselled beak bearing down on me.
