#nålbinding
Well so far I have volunteered to teach drop spinning and nålbinding at an #SCA event in Nov, a #SciFi convention in Jan, another SCA event in Feb, and another convention in March.

Oh, and an SCA event next Sept.

I volunteer myself like I think I’m a #Pelican but really I just like to teach.

Relatable. I also want to finish a pouch in nålbinding by next weekend... lol. (I thought we weren't going to the ren fair til November, so I had plenty of time, but the weather will be beautiful next weekend. We think.)

Oh, yeah, there's that shetland lace shawl I hoped to knit 2 rows a night...

I have decided I need to learn tablet weaving or I will DIE. (In addition to learning nålbinding. Which I am enjoying, except the splicing.)

I am in WHOLEHEARTED AGREEMENT

…nålbinding doesn’t count, right?

Watching a nålbinding video while knitting a shawl... a nice Saturday afternoon.

Learning nålbinding is teaching me how spoiled I am that it's so easy to fix mistakes in knitting and crochet!

And I've been crafting a lot! My first nålbinding experiment is a hat (it's too small for me, but it *IS* a hat) and I'm learning tablet weaving! The black/yellow/white is my first attempt and I'm working on the red/yellow/blue now. Plus a secret other project...

Me, with 2 books to fold, 3.5 hats to knit, one Hail Mary sweater to finish, 50 prints to design...and print, and a large scale art project I want to do:

Man, I gotta learn nålbinding.

Just finished #binding my needle organizer for my #nålbinding projects. I used super fluffy #wool that made it so annoying to bind, yet made an organizer that is so soft and delightful to handle .

For this project I used the 🇧🇻 #OsloStitch.

Yeah. I’m 64. I do have fiber arts skills (spinning, knitting, nålbinding, etc) and I was hoping that would suffice. But asylum seekers would likely have priority, as they should. What a sad situation.

And as a Norwegian word (or any other Scandinavian language) "nålbinding" is roughly 100 years old term, even if that, so there probably are other words as well, like in Swedish and Icelandic with the "sewing mittens" vantsömn ot vattarsaumur.

This late antique Egyptian sock was created using a technique called Nålbinding—it’s a form of textile knotting done with a single needle. I am not sure what stitches they were using with the Akhmim sock—the height of Coptic sock and sandal fashion.

In 2019 National Museums Scotland opened a redeveloped Egyptian gallery. Many of the objects chosen for the new space had never been on display before. Amo

Here’s something fun I designed for the St. Louis Park Art Fair on September 6th - nålflowers! (I can rarely resist a play on words.) The petals are made with Oslo stitch, and a flat bead for the center, made into a pin/brooch. #nålbinding #naalbinding #handmademn

Today I dyed with indigo
Yarn for tablet weaving and nålbinding
And couple of Finnish iron age aprons. It’s good to have extras just in case one feels like dyeing.

Hahaha

I meannnnn it is like almost the same

Nålbinding makes the best socks and gloves, without question. Absolutely amazing. Making a hat might make you go mad tho

Urgo, have you ever tried nålbinding, which uses one tool only? I'm arriving here as a noob so you might be like a nålbinding specialist, if so I apologise.
June 16, 2026 at 3:35 PM
Oh that’s a good point. Nålbinding it is.

That is such a good idea, and very healthy for the mind as well. I have been active in an Iron age village, and I can only testify to ancient crafts being very relevant and rewarding today.
We did bronze casting pottery cooking wool nålbinding and woodworking. What is your favorite ancient craft?

You could also learn nålbinding in Finnish (with subtitles and good visuals) I made two testing pairs of mittens like this and use them in winter - so cozy

Tusen takk for oppmøte på #håndarbeidsfleff. Jeg har nå blitt lært hæl (vi får se om det sitter), løse planer om "tema" nålbinding og brikkevev er luftet. Tror vi prøver igjen i september-ish?
